PRC hosting vermicomposting, recycling workshops this fall
October 16, 2018
Pennsylvania Resources Council workshops taking place at locations in Allegheny County this fall will include a new “Recycling Awareness Workshop” and vermiculture (worm composting) classes.
To register for a PRC workshop, visit http://www.prc.org/programs or call 412-488-7490 x226.
A new program, Recycling Awareness workshop, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 7–8 p.m., Sewickley Public Library. The Recycling Awareness Workshop shares answers to common questions surrounding recycling in southwestern Pennsylvania such as:
Lids on? Lids off? Rinse? Wash? Labels on? Labels off? Which plastics are acceptable? What about a window? Broken plastic toys? Electronics? Tires? Plastic bags? Polystyrene? Appliances? Textiles? What materials are accepted curbside? What about hard-to-recycle items and household hazardous waste? Unwanted pharmaceuticals? Organic debris?
Course fee includes 60 minutes of instruction plus a 32-gallon blue recycling bin. Cost: $50 per person, $55 per couple, and includes one recycling bin. Pre-registration is required.
Vermicomposting Workshop will be held on:
Saturday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Construction Junction, Point Breeze;
Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 6:30 – 8 p.m., North Park Rose Barn; and,
Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6:30 – 8 p.m., South Park Buffalo Inn.
Try indoor composting with red wiggler worms. Build a complete vermiculture system to take home at the end of the workshop. Worms produce a product (castings) that is considered an especially good soil amendment and nutrient source. Learn how to house, feed, harvest and care for worms that produce a natural, homemade fertilizer for your lawn and garden.
Course fee includes 90 minutes of instruction plus a complete, ready-to-use vermiculture system. Cost: $70 per person, $75 per couple, and includes one compost box with worms. Pre-registration is required
