Aloha welcomes seniors at Luau
September 11, 2018
The Allentown Senior Citizens Center was recently transformed into an island retreat when the seniors enjoyed a Hawaiian Luau. Participants donned muumuus, Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts. Upon entering the center, the guests were greeted with a welcoming "Aloha" and presented with a traditional lei.
Activities included games with a "Hula Hoop" and "Pin the Coconut on the Palm Tree" contest. Bruce Puckett had the crowd singing and dancing as they enjoyed the sounds of Hawaii among other favorites.
"The seniors spent weeks helping prepare for the luau. They made decorations, constructed a tiki hut and got together to make food for the party" said services coordinator Michelle Silliman. Being new to the position Ms. Silliman added "These senior are movers and groovers! They want a center to meet with their peers and just have fun."
There is something to do every day of the week and most weekends. September brings new classes from CCAC including Tai Chi, Healthy Cooking, and arts and crafts, a music class from the Duquesne School of Music, speakers, travel logs and group trips. Seniors 60 and over can also enjoy a nutritious lunch served at 11:30 am.
