Phat Man Dee and Friends celebrate 1 year anniversary of “Tune It! Tuesdays!”

Last updated 9/12/2018 at 8:13pm

Every Third Tuesday for the past year, Phat Man Dee (Mandee) has hosted a community oriented, intergenerational, musical jam session. A show for all ages, the house band features world class jazz musicians with the ability to back up singers, instrumentalists, poets, and spoken word artists of all genres.

This month’s jam session features Phat Man Dee as host, with musicians Tony DePaolis (bass), Carlos Peña (guitar), and Miguel Sague III (conga). Community members have been attending and jamming with professional musicians, performing original compositions, experimental works, poetry, hip hop, jazz standards and cover songs for one year now.

With the promise of continued support of a Love My Neighbor grant from Neighborhood Allies, additional support from Drusky Entertainment, Copies at Carson, and Black Forge Coffee House, Mandee has helped amplify the voices of new performers, seasoned professionals and artists looking to explore new work.

The first set features Mandee as she sings with the musicians, and after the first set, she invites the artists in the audience to come up and do two or three selections of their choosing. Many of her neighbors have performed, as well as Mandee’s students from the Afro American Music Institute and the We Rock Workshop, and professional collaborators from her many projects have joined in the fun as well.

This is an open minded, all inclusive, judgement free zone, designed to encourage artists and praise them for future confidence and success.

All ages, $3 cover charge at the door, guest artists enter for free.
