Funeral directors association installs new officers for 2018

The Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association (ACFDA) recently installed officers for 2018.

The newly installed officers are: President: John N. Elachko, III, John N. Elachko Funeral Home, Oakland; Vice-President: James E. Maksin, John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood; Secretary: Ryan T. Wilt, McDermott Funeral Home, Inc. McKees Rocks; and, Treasurer: Kevin R. Dieterle, Readshaw Funeral Home Inc., Carrick.

Also installed, to begin three-year terms on the Board of Trustees, were: Rosemarie Carfagna Au, Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., Shadyside; Daniel F Bekavac, Jr., Daniel F. Bekavac Funeral Home & Crematory, McKeesport; and, LeeAnn Sherman, Stephen M. Brady Funeral Home, North Side.

Continuing on the Board of Trustees are: Stephanie Doriguzzi, Patrick T Lanigan Funeral Home, Turtle Creek; Patrick J. Konieceny, Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., Imperial; John Paul Lester, Boron Funeral Home, Carrick; Paul J. Urban, Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home, Munhall; and, Immediate Past President, Edward P. Kanai, III, Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, Greenfield.

Also honored at the meeting were Mr. Kanai as outgoing president, David E. Mahlsted, Forgie Snyder Funeral Home, East McKeesport and Andrew C. Slater, John F. Slater Funeral Home, Brentwood, as outgoing trustees.

ACFDA is te largest county-level funeral directors’ association in Pennsylvania and has more members than some state-level associations. Organized in 1895, this voluntary association strives to promote the highest standards of professionalism and public service.

In addition to member services, ACFDA provides consumers with information, referrals, frief seminars, the Highmark Caring Place – A Center For Grieving Children, a grievance resolution process and an organized volunteer effort to aid during disasters.
