City Council schedules two public hearings on marijuana, cabarets

Pittsburgh City Council has scheduled two public hearings, one related to medical marijuana dispensaries and the other to clarify the definition of an adult cabaret for February 8.

Bill 2017-1930 LUC #C-819 deals with medical marijuana dispensaries, growing, and processing facilities in commercial and industrial zoning districts. This hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

City Council initiated a Zoning Code Text amendment related to medical marijuana dispensaries and growing and processing facilities. In conformity with the Act 16, Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act, the proposed amendment permits medical marijuana dispensaries in commercial and industrial districts, and growing and processing facilities in industrial districts, subject to specific approval criteria.

Bill 2017-1827 is to clarify the definition of an Adult Cabaret. City Council initiated a Zoning Code Text amendment clarifying the definition of Adult Cabaret. This hearing is scheduled to 2:00 p.m.

The proposed text amendments may be reviewed online at and are available in paper copy at the Zoning Counter at 200 Ross Street, 3rd Floor. The paper copies may be examined between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding city holidays.

The public hearings on the proposed text amendments will take place in City Council Chambers, 414 Grant Street, 5th Floor

In order to speak or present information to city council at the public hearings, interested parties should call the City Clerk’s Office at 412-255-2138 prior to the hearing date in order to have your name placed on the speaker’s list. Testimony is limited to three minutes. Those who do not register in advance, will have the opportunity to address the council after the list of registered speakers has been exhausted, and you will be given one minute of testimony.
