Spaghetti dinner will benefit diabetes research

A Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, at Sullivan Hall, 115 Bigham Street, Pittsburgh PA 15211.

Cost of the dinner is $8 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Children 2 and under eat for free.

Hosted by Mackenzie Brooks, the dinner will raise money for research to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Donations of items for a Chinese auction, gift certificates or monetary are needed. To make a donation-n, call Fran Brooks at 412-758-6788.

Mackenzie, a senior at- City Charter High School, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was three years old and chose the fundraiser as her graduation project. She has set a goal of raising $1,000 with the dinner and hopes to exceed the amount.

Really? It's a fundraiser for diabetes and it has to be spaghetti? There is such a thing as diabetic friendly foods (type 1 or 2) and non-diabetic friendly foods. Why not choose the former and educate people on a better way to manage type 1 diabetes than the ----free for all--- method.
