South Side Neighborhood Social draws residents and Duquesne students
October 31, 2017
The Duquesne University Office of Commuter Affairs partnered with South Side Community Council, South Side Chamber of Commerce, and the South Side CitiParks Healthy Active Living Center to welcome about 60 South Side residents and Duquesne University (DU) students at the South Side Market House for DU's annual neighborhood social On October 25.
This year, DU students organized a trivia contest and teams to compete for a variety of prizes donated by the University, the Community Council and the South Side Chamber of Commerce.
The university treated those attending to a catered buffet of chicken wings, chips, pretzels along with dips and sauces and topped off with an assortment of cookies. Students and residents noshed together and got to know each other while racking their brains for the trivia answers.
It really was a lot of fun, with some of the longtime residents offering answers to the more dated questions, while the students proved strong on the more contemporary ones. Students and residents alike shared information on their respective community initiatives and events and how they may support each other.
Neighboring students and residents went home with a sense of looking forward to continuing to build on positive relationships with the people they just met. The trivia contest and raffle prize winners were happy to carry their winnings home.
