Mt. Oliver man arrested in bank robbery attempt

Thomas Orin Hetrick, 50, of Mt. Oliver, has been arrested by the Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit on charges of robbery, aggravated assault, and criminal conspiracy related to an incident at First Commonwealth Bank, 2501 E. Carson Street.
According to police, at approximately 1:55 p.m. on September 25, Hetrick entered the bank holding a knife. As soon as he made eye contact with the security guard, he fled running north on S. 25th Street toward Sydney Street. The guard caught up with Hetrick and a brief fight ensued in which the guard was cut on his left hand.
Hetrick got into a gray 4-door SUV and got away. Paramedics transported the guard to UPMC Mercy where his injury was treated.
