Zone 3 community crime alerts for July 3-9


The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: July 3-9.

Duquesne Heights (1911)

Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Kathleen St. – between 7/4/17 at 4 PM and 7/5/17 at 2 PM – Victim noticed the passenger side front door was ajar and the contents of the vehicle had been moved. There was no sign of forced entry.

Aggravated assault – 100 blk. Ruth St. – 7/7/17 at 6:45 PM – Officers responded to a report of a mental health patient assaulting a staff member. The victim stated the patient wanted to meet a relative and during the course of the visit. The patient punched the victim about 15 times. The victim was treated by medics at the scene.

Theft – 400 blk. Ruxton St. – between 7/8/17 at 9 PM and 7/9/17 at 1:45 PM – Victim reported her relative stolen her debit card and 40” TV. The relative returned the debit card but it was used to purchase $100 in merchandise. The relative (Christian Hartung) was later arrested and taken to jail.

Robbery – 100 blk. Virginia Ave. – 7/3/17 at 9:25 AM – Victim reported a known person picked her up and were driving around. When they drove to Virginia the known person pulled out a firearm and told the victim to give him her son and demanded her to take all of her money out of the ATM. The victim pulled the child from the carrier as she was getting out of the vehicle. The known suspect then fled the scene. Officers located the known suspect and took him into custody. A search warrant was applied for and granted. The officers recovered the firearm (9mm Taurus International).

Theft – 100 blk. Greenbush St. – between 7/4/17 at 4 PM and 7/5/17 at 2 AM – Victim reported someone had taken her firearm (JMZ-Jimenez Arms Model JA22) from her home. Amount of loss is unknown.

Stolen vehicle – 400 blk. Belonda St. – between 7/4/17 at 10 PM and 7/5/17 at 10 AM – Victim reported his white 2017 Volkswagen Passat had been stolen. The vehicle was recovered by Pittsburgh Police.

South Shore (1921) - nothing to report.

Bon Air (1806) – nothing to report.

South Side Slopes (1706, 1608)

Stolen vehicle –100 blk. S. 27th St. – 6/30/17 at 3:25 PM – Victim called to report a known actor stole her rental vehicle. The rental vehicle has been recovered and returned to the rental company. The vehicle was a white 2017 Ford Fusion sedan.

Burglary – 2800 blk. Edwards Way – between 7/3/17 at 6 PM and 7/4/17 at midnight – Victim reported a home being renovated was broken into and belongings of a previous tenant were taken. Amount of loss is unknown.

Robbery – S. 18th St. & Mission St. Bridge – 7/4/17 at 12:20 AM – Victim reported she had been out drinking and took a bus home. When she got off the bus she was approached from behind by a white male with piercing blue eyes and ski mask. The male demanded her wallet. When she resisted the white male pulled out a black gun and “pistol whipped” her in the face. The victim had her phone (Samsung Galaxy), wallet, cash, state ID, and connect card stolen. Amount of loss is over $600.

South Side Flats (1609 & 1702)

Aggravated assault – Heritage trail (near S 18th St.) – 7/5/17 at 9:23 AM – An officer patrolling the Heritage trail found a male with a wound to his head. The male victim explained he was in an argument over nothing and picked up a piece of wood and struck the other party. The other party then stabbed him in the head with a knife. The victim stated he started it by hitting the other party and did not want to cooperate any further. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. S. 11th St. – between midnight and 8 AM on 7/3/17 – Victim reported her car was rummaged through but nothing appears to have been taken. Victim stated neighbors saw 2 white youths in the car and chased them away.

Theft of property delivered – 1900 blk. Wrights Way – 7/3/17 at 5:30 PM – Victim called to report he had packages delivered to his home. The packages are now gone. There is video of the incident. The suspects are described as a black male and black female, about 10-12 years old, dark hair and small build. Amount of loss is $40. The packages had Brita water filters and dishwasher tablets/pods.

Theft of property lost or mislaid– S. 18th St. & E. Carson St. – between 7/2/17 at 10 PM and 7/3/17 at 2 AM – Victim reported she lost her Michael Kors purse and the contents. Amount of loss is unknown.

Robbery – E. Carson St. & S. 17th St. – 7/4/17 at 1 AM – Victim reported he was beaten and robbed by homeless males wearing dark clothing. The victim stated the suspects kicked him in the head and beat him with their guitars before taking his white iPhone and fleeing the scene. Officers were able to locate 2 suspects at different locations. The victim positively identified both suspect as the ones who attacked and robbed him. Mason Smith and Jacob Rial were arrested for the robbery. The victim was transported by medics to a local hospital for head, neck, and shoulder pain.

Theft of property lost or mislaid – E. Carson St. & S. 10th St. – 7/4/17 at 10:30 PM – Victim reported breaking up a fight and losing her iPhone 6 with purple case. Victim thinks one of the females involved in the fight took the phone. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from vehicle – 2000 blk. Sarah St. – between 7/4/17 at 6 AM and 7/5/17 at 5:45 PM – Victim reported his detachable windshield, swing arm leather bag, & windshield lock were stolen off of his motorcycle. Amount of loss is $687.30.

Theft – S. 13th St. & E. Carson St. – 7/8/17 at 4 AM – Victim reported his bike was taken when he went inside his friend’s house for a moment. The bike is a blue mountain bike. Amount of loss is $80.

Aggravated assault – 1500 blk. E. Carson St. – 7/8/17 at 1:15 AM – Janielle Pratt was arrested when she refused to step away from a prisoner. Furthermore, she created a scene where patrons of local bars and pedestrians began to gather around the officers. When officers tried to engage her she slapped the officer’s hand and pushed the officer backwards while grabbing his magazine pouch.

Robbery – 100 blk. S. 10th St. – 7/8/17 at 7 PM – Victim called to report a robbery. The victim stated a black male was allowed into the home by a relative. This male/suspect forcibly removed her black wallet with $40. The victim had been drinking alcohol and due to her level of intoxication could not give a better description of the suspect. The relative was not on scene.

Allentown (1803)

Theft – 400 blk. Allen St. – between 6/21/17 at noon and 7/3/17 at 4:08 PM – Victim called to report a known person will not return her child’s stroller to her. Amount of loss is $30.

Aggravated assault – 900 blk. Proctor Way – 7/6/17 at 4:23 PM – Officers responded to a 911 call for leaving the scene of an accident report. After arriving on scene, the driver returned to the scene. However, he refused to produce a driver’s license. He kept backing away from the officers and refusing to give his information which is required. The suspect then balled up his hand above his waist. His fist indicating he was prepared to fight. Also, officers noticed the driver showed signs of intoxication. Antonio Murphy was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment and a blood draw.

Mount Oliver (1607) – nothing to report.

Arlington (1603)

Theft from vehicle – 300 blk. Dengler St. – between 3 AM and 7:30 AM on 7/3/17 – Victims reported their black Michael Kors purse and wallet were stolen from their vehicle. Also, a state ID, social security information, heart monitor, and debit/credit cards were also taken. Amount of loss is over $450.

Stolen vehicle – 2400 blk. Arlington Ave. – between 7/6/17 at 2 AM and 7/7/17 at 10 PM – Victim reported his work truck was stolen. The truck is a burgundy 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck has been recovered and James Guerica was arrested by local law enforcement.

Arlington Heights (1604) – nothing to report.

Beltzhoover (1809) – nothing to report.

Carrick (2901, 2902, 2904)

Aggravated assault – 2700 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/4/17 at 3:54 AM – Officers responded to a disorderly male call. Upon arrival, the officers observed the male was under the stairwell completely nude. Officers also observed signs of high intoxication and requested medics. The medics were on the way to the hospital when the male attacked the medic. Christopher Stewart was arrested for assaulting the medic and taken to jail.

Robbery – 2100 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/3/17 at 1 AM – Victim reported she was walking down Brownsville when a black vehicle pulled over and 2 white females exited the vehicle and assaulted her. The victim stated she was kicked several times and her purse was stolen. One female was 5’7”, 120 pounds, brown hair, and wearing a tank top and shorts. The other female was 5’7” and 150 pounds. The victim stated 10 people were inside the vehicle and multiple black juveniles encouraged the assault. The purse (Victoria Secret) had cash, state ID, access card, and supplies. Amount of loss is $250.

Burglary – 1100 blk. Brownsville Rd. – between 7/1/17 at 7 PM and 7/2/17 at 7:30 AM – Owner reported someone gained access to the business and opened items for sale and poured the contents onto the floor. Amount of loss is unknown.

Robbery – 1900 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/4/17 at 7:50 PM – Victim reported an unknown black male assaulted him and took his bag with medicine and cash. The victim stated the black male was 6’2”, 250 pounds, and wearing white shirt & pants. The suspect fled in a white Nissan Maxima.

Theft from vehicle – 200 blk. Sprucewood St. – between 10 AM and 5 PM on 7/8/17 – Victim reported her driver’s side-view mirror was stolen from her vehicle. There were pry marks on the vehicle too. Amount of loss is unknown.

Burglary – 100 blk. Calhoun Ave. – between 9:30 AM and 6:48 PM – Victim reported someone entered his home and stole his 50” RCA TV. There was no sign of forced entry. Amount of loss is $700.

Stolen vehicle – 100 blk. Stewart Ave – between 7/4/17 at 11:30 PM and 7/5/17 at noon – Victim reported his mini-bike with white handle bars & gray gas tank was stolen from his front porch. The amount of loss is $90.

Robbery – 100 blk. Carrick Ave. – 7/7/17 at 4:45 AM - Victim reported he was approached by 4 white males. One grabbed him by the neck and pushed him against an outside wall. The victim’s backpack was then stolen. The white male that grabbed him is described as 25 years old, 6’, thin build, short black hair, and wearing all black. The back pack was a tan Cushion Dior containing Beats headphones, iPhone 6, and cash. The amount of loss is $1,910.

Overbrook (3204, 3207)

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Odette St. – between 7/6/17 at 10:30 PM and 7/7/17 at 9:30 AM – Reporting person stated he saw an older model silver sedan throw a female’s wallet out the window. He called the police who located the owner. The owner stated nothing was in the wallet, but it was in her vehicle. The victim checked and nothing else was missing from the vehicle.

St. Clair (1606) – nothing to report.

Knoxville (3001)

Aggravated assault – 200 blk. Moore Ave – 7/3/17 at 10:30 PM – Officers were attempting to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Mathews Ave. The vehicle appeared as if it was going to pull over but instead wrecked into a parked vehicle which caused the parked vehicle to hit into another vehicle. As a result, the collision resulted in a young girl being hit by one of the cars. Officers identified the juveniles who had wrecked the vehicle and then fled the scene. The case will be forwarded through the juvenile justice system. The vehicle was later discovered as stolen.

Theft by deception – 400 blk. Moore Ave – between 6/29/17 at 9 AM and 7/7/17 at 12:43 PM – Victim reported selling a car transmission on a phone app for $275. The purchaser sent him $720.21 to send the transmission and would use what was left over to help repair the vehicle. The seller checked and found a business by that name in the city the check had on it. The seller’s bank accepted the check but later reversed stating the check was bad.

Theft – 600 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/7/17 at 1 PM – Victim reported he was buying a PlayStation gaming console and games for $140. The female he had met at a local business took the money and stated she would get the items out of the car. As the victim was following her, she hurried up and got in the black Ford Explorer and fled. The female is white, 30-35 years old, 5’6”, and 140 pounds.
