Summer games with police, community at Highmark Stadium

The family-oriented USSIE Summer Games is designed to build, nurture, and maintain relationships between the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and residents throughout the City of Pittsburgh. 

The Power of &, Bridges Mentoring Group and the Bureau of Police united to host the inaugural event June 24 at Highmark Stadium, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The USSIE Summer Games will feature police officers from all six neighborhood station who will team with members of their respective communities and compete in field-day style challenges.

The six zones will be led by local celebrity team captains – Saleem Ghubril, executive director, The Pittsburgh Promise; Natalie Bencivenga, Post-Gazette SEEN Editor; Gisele Fetterman, co-founder of 412 Food Rescue and For Good; Chris “Steel” Edmonds, former National Football League player; Lynne Hayes Freeland, KDKA-TV reporter; and Rev. Marco Tinor, senior pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church – and compete for the USSIE Summer Games Traveling Trophy.

“We’re excited to participate in this meaningful event that creates a space for the police and the community to engage in a fun way that will build a strong foundation,” said Bureau of Police Assistant Chief Larry Scirotto. 

The competitive games will include three leg races, dodgeball, water balloon toss, and tug of war. Attendees will also enjoy face painting, music, food, and vendors. 

Each Zone team will have 12 members, three police officers, a celebrity captain, sponsor and/or community reps, seven community team members, three adults over 18, two teen 13-17 years old and two pre-teens ages 6-12.

Player requirements include: Every player must sign waiver, they must be available to play June 24, 9 a.m.- 2p.m. those under 18 must have a legal guardian sign a waiver and agree to be photographed and videotaped.
