Zone 3 community crime alerts for April 24-30
The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: April 24 – 30.
Duquesne Heights (1911)
Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)
Theft by deception – 100 blk. Bailey Ave. – 4/27/17 at 10:30 AM – A business called to report a known customer tried to by items with a $100 bill marked “Motion Picture Use Only”. The customer was given the fake bill by an acquaintance and the store did not wish to prosecute.
Theft from person – 100 blk. Kenova St. – 4/29/17 at 6 PM – Victim reported a known actor stole his baseball cards. The amount of loss is unknown at this time.
Theft from vehicle – 300 blk. Bigham St. – 4/30/17 at 3 AM – Victim reported locking his vehicle and returning to find items stolen. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle. The items were cash, RayBan sunglasses, & an iPod. Loss is about $650. There is possible video surveillance of the crime.
Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Dilworth St. – between 4/24/17 at 6 PM and 4/25/17 at 9 AM – Victim reported cash was taken from the vehicle which was left unlocked. Amount of loss is $3. There is possible video surveillance of this crime as well.
Theft from vehicle – 200 blk. Kearsarge St. – between 4/24/17 at 8 PM and 4/25/17 at 11 AM – Victim reported credit and debit cards stolen from a vehicle which may have been left unlocked. Amount of loss is unknown.
Theft from Vehicle – 100 blk. Dilworth St. – between 4/24/17 at 6 PM and 4/25/17 at 9 AM – Victim reported his phone cord was stolen out of his vehicle. The incident was captured on video. Amount of loss is unknown.
Theft from person – 100 blk. Penelope St. – 3/15/17 at 2 PM – Victim reported he left his South African Mastiff (dog) out in his yard. When he went to let the dog back in the house the dog was gone. Amount of loss is $3,000.
Theft by deception – 100 blk. Grandview Ave. – between 4/26/17 at 5 PM and 4/27/17 at 11:05 AM – Victim was called by a person posing as Sgt. Ryan Wilson (suspect) from the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic. The suspect explained the grandson had been arrested for marijuana possession (over a pound) and needed to go to court and had to post a bond in the amount of $874. The suspect then gave the victim instructions on how to send a MoneyGram to the Dominican Republic. The suspect then conveyed the total amount was $883 including fees. The victim sent the money. The caller/suspect then told the victim the money was accepted but they now needed more money to satisfy an additional fine ($1,780). Since the bank was now closed the caller/suspect was going to call the following day as the bank was now closed. However, the victim called the grandson’s father who stated the grandson was not in the Dominican Republic. Later that day, the suspect called back stating he was in Miami International Airport but customs had stopped him and needed more money to be released. Amount of loss is $883.
Theft from vehicle – Saw Mill Run Blvd. & W. Warrington Ave. – between 4/26/17 at 10 PM and 4/27/17 at 7 AM – Victim reported items stolen from his vehicle. The items were a brown leather bag, J-bird X3 headphone, HP laptop, & a prescription bottle. Amount of loss is over $1,050.
South Shore (1921)
Bon Air (1806)
Theft from vehicle – 400 blk. Conniston Ave. – between 4/28/17 at midnight and 4/28/17 at 8:30 AM – Victim reported money stolen from his vehicle and scratches on the passenger side as well. The amount of loss and damage is over $165.
Aggravated assault – 100 blk. Camfield St. – 4/28/17 at 8:40 PM – Officers responded to a fight report with multiple people involved. The victims stated they were attacked by 3 known females with a baseball bat. The officers were able to corroborate the victim’s statements from the crime scene. Julia Vidal, Sharon Garrett and Kirstyn Garrett were arrested for the aggravated assault. Officers recovered a baseball bat on the scene.
South Side Slopes (1706, 1608)
Theft from person – 2300 blk. Baltic Way – between 4/15/17 at midnight and 5/1/17 at 4:37 PM – Owner called to report family and friends of one of his tenants took the refrigerator and stove from the apartment. The items have been returned.
Theft of property delivered – 100 blk. St. Paul St. – between 4/25/17 at 9 AM and 4/25/17 at 7 PM - Victim called to report the theft of gift cards. The delivery company stated the delivery was made the day before. The amount of loss is about $1,100.
South Side Flats (1609,1702)
Theft from vehicle – Sidney St. & S. 24th St. – between 4/23/17 at 5 PM and 4/24/17 at 8 AM – Victim reported items stolen from his vehicle. The items were Black and Gold Steelers themed golf bag with fishing lure, Titleist golf balls, Titleist AP2 gold club set includes wedge thru 4-iron clubs, Titleist D2 driver, Cobra rescue adjustable 3-4 iron club. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle. Amount of loss is about $1,400.
Theft from vehicle - 3200 blk. S. Water St. – between 4/26/17 at 6 AM and 4/26/17 at 5:45 PM – Victim reported vehicle was left unlocked and victim’s wallet was stolen. Stolen with the wallet was cash, credit cards, driver’s license, and reward cards. Amount of loss is over $70.
Theft from person – 2500 blk. Sidney St. – 4/21/17 at Noon – Victim reported being notified by his credit card company that his card was used. Victim discovered 3 credit cards had been stolen. Amount of loss is unknown.
Theft of property lost or mislaid – 100 blk. S. 22nd St. – 4/27/17 at 9:45 – Victim reported he lost his leather wallet with credit cards, social security ID, and state ID. Amount of loss is over $50.
Theft of property lost or mislaid – 100 blk. S. 19th St. – 4/25/17 at 4 PM – Victim reported losing his wallet with his ATM card and state ID. Amount of loss is unknown.
Robbery – 1700 blk. E. Carson St. – 4/25/17 at 12:41 PM – Officers responded to a robbery of a business. The suspect produced a black semi-automatic pistol and demanded the money. The amount of loss is unknown. The suspect (a male, 6’ tall, large build, and goatee) got into a blue vehicle and fled. The driver was an older white female with blonde hair.
Burglary – 1900 blk. Wrights Way. – 4/25/17 at 6:30 PM – Officers responded to a burglary in progress. While enroot to the scene, officers were informed the victim had a suspect detained. The victim was returning home and caught four people breaking into his home and stealing items. The other 3 people got away. A juvenile was arrested for this burglary. Items stolen were PlayStation controllers, credit cards, bank card, social security ID, & cash. Amount of loss is over $930. The other three suspects appear to be in a juveniles age range as well.
Burglary – 100 blk. S. 15th St. – between 4/23/17 at 3 AM and 4/23/17 at 10 AM – Victim reported someone entered through the rear window and stole the victim’s rabbit (brown) and the rabbit’s light green cage. Amount of loss is unknown.
Burglary – 2500 blk. Sidney St. – 4/26/17 at 10:25 AM – Victim reported a “Live” brand hybrid bicycle (white with teal highlights) was stolen from an open garage. Amount of loss is $650.
Aggravated assault – 1500 blk. E. Carson St. – 4/29/17 at 2:33 AM – Officers working Southside observed a large fight at this location with males and females involved. Officers gave several commands to stop but the people involved kept fighting. Officers had to physically separate the combatants. In the course of trying to restore order, officers were assaulted by one male actor and a second male suspect resisted arrest. Officers will issue citations for other members associated with the fight. Aaron Race was arrested for assaulting the officer plus other charges and Joshua Arnold was arrested for resisting arrest as well as other charges.
Theft from vehicle – 1700 blk. Larkins Way – 4/29/17 at 9 PM – Victim called to report cash was stolen from her vehicle. The victim observed her passenger side window was smashed. The victim had returned home and about 4 hours later discovered the theft and damage to the vehicle. Amount of loss if over $15.
Aggravated assault – S. 10th & Bingham St. – 4/30/17 at 3:30 AM – Victim approached officers stating he was stabbed by a known male. Both parties involved have been identified and the incident is under investigation.
Robbery – 400 blk. E. Warrington Ave. – 4/29/17 at 5:30 AM – taxi cab driver reported being robbed by a young black male and female. The black male was wearing a red shirt and hat, a coat and white tee shirt on. He went on to state he picked up the customers (black male and black female) and stopped at the A plus. The customers stopped here for snacks and got back into the taxi. Upon arrival at the destination, the male reached over and ripped the keys out of the ignition and demanded the driver’s money. When the driver refused to give the money the male told the female to give him the pistol he was going to shoot him. The male then tried to rip the computer out of the car because officers were responding to the scene. When the male was unable to rip the computer out he and the female fled the scene. Officers checking the area found an open door to a residence. Officers received consent from the resident. The victim was able to identify two people in the house as the ones who robbed him. Also, recovered was evidence from the robbery. Niya Hicks and Jeriamiyah Edwards were arrested for the robbery.
Mount Oliver (1607)
Burglary – 400 blk. St. Joseph St. – between 4/25/17 at 7:35 AM and 4/26/17 at 3 PM – Victims called to report a burglary of their residence. Entry was made through the rear window. Items taken were a PlayStation Call of Duty version (black), Wii game system, Wii games, PlayStation games, cologne, HP Pavillion laptop, PlayStation 4, diamond tennis bracelet, gold X & heart bracelet, Boliva mens silver & gold watch, mens wedding ring, Kindle in purple case, 3 pillow cases (yellow), cash, Sentry safe, social security identification, savings bonds, coins, & personal papers. Amount of loss is over $3,230.
Arlington Heights (1604)
Carrick (2901, 2902, 2904)
Burglary – 200 blk. E. Meyers St. – 4/24/17 at 12:20 PM – Victim was awakened by a loud banging. He responded to the area of the sounds and observed a with male (50-55 years old, thin build, clean shaven, blue eyes, fair complexion, and wearing a green bandana/”do-rag”, gray hoodie, & blue jeans) trying to pry open his window. The suspect fled upon seeing the resident.
Burglary – 1600 blk. Leolyn St. – between 4/24/17 at 6 AM and 4/24/17 at Noon. – Victim returned home to find someone had entered thru his rear door and stole his PlayStation 4 gaming console. Amount of loss is $250. The suspect tried to enter the home thru multiple areas.
Burglary – 300 blk. Birmingham Ave. – between 4/24/17 at 10 PM and 4/25/17 at 11 AM – Victim returned home to find forced entry into her home thru the rear door. The victim observed items were stolen from the home. The items were a Toshiba desktop computer & a Sony 42” TV. Amount of loss is $680.
Robbery – 2100 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 4/30/17 at 6 PM – Victim reported he was approached by a white male and black male while he was walking who forcibly took his car keys from him. The white male (15-19 years old was wearing a white shirt) & black male (15-19 years old and was wearing white shirt and shorts) then fled the scene once they had the keys. The victim was not injured.
Theft from person – 2300 blk. Spokane Ave. – between 4/17/17 at midnight and 4/24/17 at midnight – Victim reported his cat was stolen from his yard. Victim learned a known suspect admitted to stealing the cat.
Burglary – 200 blk. Kirk Ave. – between 4/26/17 at 5:30 AM and 4/26/17 at 8:45 PM – Victim returned home and discovered it had been burglarized. There was no apparent signs of forced entry. Items stolen from the victim were cash, Sentry safe, jewelry, credit card, cash, coins, and personal ID documents. Amount of loss is over $4,000.
Theft from person – 100 blk. Clifton St. – 4/27/17 at 7:45 AM – Victim had placed a 60” Vigoro Garden Trim next to his vehicle to return it to the store. The victim went back inside of his home for a moment only to see a white male driving away in a Chevrolet pickup truck. Amount of loss is $60.
Overbrook (3204, 3207)
Theft & Forgery – 2000 blk. Walton Ave. – between 10/28/16 Midnight and 4/28/17 at 5 PM – Victim discovered a known person was cashing checks on his account without permission. The known person also refused to return the iPhone SE the victim lent to the known person. The amount of loss is about $770.
St. Clair (1606)
Theft from person – 700 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 4/24/17 at 3:15 AM – Victim called to report a known person stole cash and his wallet. The wallet had 2 bank cards and personal IDs inside. Amount of loss is over $35.
Burglary – 200 blk. Zara St. – between 4/17/17 at 10 PM and 4/25/17 at 7:40 PM – Victim called to report a burglary. The victim returned home to find items stolen and no forced entry. Items stolen were a 32” TV (black), Xbox 360 with one controller (black), credit card, & clothing stolen. Amount of loss is over $250.
Theft from vehicle – 300 blk. McKinley St. – between 4/27/17 at 7 PM and 4/28/17 at 10:45 AM – Victim reported her vehicle was ransacked but nothing appears to have been taken. There was no signs of forced entry into the vehicle.
Burglary – 200 blk. Reifert St. – between 4/14/17 at 8 AM and 4/28/17 at 9:30 AM – Victims reported a home burglary. The victims reported two Xbox One gaming consoles stolen, Vizio 43” TV, Sharp 55” TV, PlayStation 4, Samsung 32” TV, and PlayStation 4 games stolen. The loss is over $1,540. The suspect forced entry thru a window to gain access into the home.
Robbery – E. Amanda Ave & Zara St. – 4/29/17 at 1 PM – A juvenile victim was approach by a group of juveniles who pulled a knife on the victim and demanded money. They stole $3 from the victim. The juveniles were described as being about 8 or 9 years old and as three black juveniles.
Burglary – 300 blk. Reifert St. – 4/30/17 at 9:44 AM – A person called to report a burglary. Officers arrived and minutes later encountered a male (later identified as Kahlil Owens) on the front porch. Owens stated he paid an acquaintance to stay there. He would state he would call this acquaintance to let him in the residence because he had no keys. He could not provide a phone number or name of the acquaintance so officers could contact this person to confirm payment or any part of his story. In addition, Owens did not have any lease agreement or paperwork showing he resided at this property. The actual resident was contacted and stated no one should have been at the residence. Kahlil Owens was arrested.
Theft from person – 100 blk. Amanda Ave. – 4/30/17 at 1:07 PM – Victim called to report someone stole $160 from the counter of a local business when they set the money on the counter.
Theft from person – 200 blk. Rochelle St. – 4/30/17 at 12:30 AM – Victim called to report a known person took her Samsung smart phone. Amount of loss is $400.
