Free education series for family caregivers offered


The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is offering a free six-week education series, Powerful Tools for Caregivers. This series is for nonprofessional caregivers and is designed to educate caregivers on how to take care of themselves.

The series will run every Thursday starting March 2, 2017 at the AAA offices, 2100 Wharton Street, Pittsburgh, second floor. All sessions are on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants who register must be present for all six sessions. Registration is required and space is limited.

The following is a list of training dates and topics:

March 2 Topic: Taking Care of You

March 9 Topic: Identifying and Reducing Personal Stress

March 16 Topic: Communicating Feelings, Needs, and Concerns

March 23 Topic: Communicating in Challenging Situations

March 30 Topic: Learning from our Emotion

April 6 Topic: Mastering Caregiving Decisions
