Zone 3 community crime alerts for January 23-29


The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: January 23 to January 29.

Duquesne Heights (1911)

Burglary – 100 blk. Sweetbriar St. - between 1/12/17 at 12 PM and 1/23/17 at 2 PM – victim discovered a shotgun was stolen from his home while on vacation. There was no apparent signs of forced entry. Amount of loss is $500.

Burglary – 400 blk. Augusta St. - between 12/24/16 at 2:22 PM and 1/24/17 at 2:20 – victim reported home was burglarized. The house was in disarray but nothing appeared taken. Entry made thru front door.

Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)

Theft from vehicle – 600 blk. Chess St. - between 1/23/17 at 11:45 PM and 1/24/17 at 11:40 AM – victim reported leaving vehicle unlocked and someone stole his Smith & Wesson firearm. Loss is $570.26.

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Ulysses St. - between 1/26/17 at 9 PM and 1/27/17 at 8 AM – victim reported having several items stolen from car. The items were a Bosca brief case, W2s, 1099s, checkbooks, clients names, book of stamps, and miscellaneous paperwork. Loss is over $720.

Theft from vehicle – 200 blk. Kearsarge St. - between 1/27/17 at 8:30 AM and 1/27/17 at 12:30 PM – victim reported GPS was stolen from vehicle. Amount of loss is unknown. The vehicle was ransacked and the trunk was left open.

Theft from vehicle – 700 blk. Virginia Ave. - between 1/26/17 at 1 PM and 1/27/17 at 1 PM – victim reported insurance card and vehicle registration were stolen from car. Loss amount is unknown. Car was left unlocked.

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Southern Ave. - between 1/27/17 at 1 AM and 1/27/17 at 8:30 AM – victim reported vehicle passenger side front window was smashed and her purse and it contents were stolen as well. Items taken were a Nicholas Sparks book, W2 for victim, & pay stubs. Loss is over $50.

Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Prospect St. - between 1/26/17 at 9:30 PM and 1/27/17 at 4 PM – victim reported a gold 1952 Selmer Saxophone, a black backpack, guitar cables, and microphone cables were stolen from vehicle. Amount of loss is $10,600. A green and black Fulmer Apache motorcycle helmet was left inside the vehicle.

South Shore (1921)

Theft from person – 300 blk. Station Dr. W. - between 1/1/17 at 6 PM and 1/2/17 at 5:30 AM – victim called to report his Discover Credit card was stolen after receiving paperwork from Discover for his claim. There is a strong possibility the actor is on video.

Bon Air (1806)

South Side Slopes (1706, 1608)

Theft from person – 2900 blk. Mary St. - between 1/22/17 at 11 PM and 1/23/17 at 9 AM – victim reported a neighbor advised her contents of her wallet were in front of her house. The victim then realized she had dropped her wallet. Items taken were a Kate Spade leather wallet with a gold zipper, cash, health insurance card, credit cards, student ID, social security card, & discount cards. Loss is over $300.

South Side Flats (1609,1702)

Theft from vehicle – Harcum Way and S. 24th St. - between 1/24/17 at 12 PM and 1/25/17 at 7:30 AM – victim reported a designer sunglass case was stolen from the car, but there was no damage to the vehicle. The amount of loss is unknown. The victim stated this is the second time her vehicle was ransacked. The first incident was not reported to the police.

Theft from vehicle – S. 9th St. And E. Carson St. - between 1/23/17 at Midnight and 1/23/17 at 7:15 AM – victim reported items stolen out of vehicle including military combat knife and military uniforms. The knife and uniforms were issued by U.S. Government according to the victim. Amount of loss is over $400. Other items left in the vehicle were not stolen.

Robbery – 900 blk. E. Carson St. - 1/23/17 at 3:58 AM – an employee called 911 to report a robbery of a business. A black male, 5'10", 180 pounds, wearing a black and purple hoodie demanded the money or the employee would be shot. The suspect took the money from the register and fled. Video was available, but the manager is only one who can access the video. Loss is approximately $150.

Theft from vehicle – Freyburg St. And S. 10th St. - between 1/18/17 at 11 PM and 1/23/17 at 8 AM – victim reported the driver side front window was smashed and the vehicle was ransacked but nothing appears to have been taken.

Theft from person – 1800 blk. E. Carson St. - 1/22/17 at 11 PM – victim was at a local business and discovered items were stolen. Items are a Michael Kors purse (orange & brown), Lyrica pills, Xanax pills, Orthotricyclon low prescription, EBT card, state & student ID, insurance card, and cosmetics. Amount of loss is over $150.

Theft from person – 1500 blk. E. Carson St. - 1/16/17 at 5:50 AM – business owner reported he was checking video to determine what had happened to his children's clothing when he noticed a known actor stealing the clothing along with other items from the bar. 40-50 bottles of liquor were stolen, a cell phone, and several customer jackets. Loss is over $1,500.

Burglary – E. Carson St. And S. 2nd St. - between 1/21/17 at 6 AM and 1/24/17 at 7:43 PM – an employee reported his company's storage pod was burglarized & the padlock was ripped off of it. 2 pair of Carhartt jacket and bibbed overalls was stolen (1 black & 1 brown). Estimated loss is approximately $516.

Theft by deception – 3200 blk. Of E. Carson St. - between 1/27/17 at 2 PM and 1/27/17 at 11:45 PM – An employee notified police two counterfeit 100 dollar bills were brought into the store. The bills were marked "For Motion Picture Use Only" on them.

Aggravated Assault – 100 blk. S. 11th St. - 1/28/17 at 2:25 AM – Officers responded to a fight in progress. Upon arrival, officers observed a female beating another female in the face with a closed fist. Medics advised the victim needed stitches and possibly had a broken bone in her face. Taylor Harvey was arrested for the aggravated assault.

Theft from vehicle – 2000 blk. Wharton St. - 1/29/17 at 12:06 AM – victim reported seeing a black male 5'7", 140 pounds, scruffy beard, dark complexion, & "big bushy hair" in possession of victim's car stereo. The victim drove around trying to locate the vehicle the suspect fled in (described as a black Nissan Altima with dark tinted windows). A Kenwood car stereo was stolen. Loss $400.

Allentown (1803)

Burglary – 100 blk. Beltzhoover Ave – between 1/24/17 at 7 PM and 1/25/17 1:14 PM - a business owner discovered the front window broken out of his business and items stolen from inside. A computer and bluetooth stereo were stolen. Loss is $600.

Mount Oliver (1607)

Arlington (1603)

Theft from person – 2300 blk. Arlington Ave. - between 1/22/17 at 5 PM and 1/23/17 at 9 AM – victim reported having a Steeler game party and discovering his firearm was stolen the next day. Loss is $500.

Burglary – 2100 blk. Abel St. - between 1/23/17 at 8:30 PM and 1/24/17 at 2:30 AM – victim reported being contacted by his mother telling him a female admitted to trashing the home. Every room in the home was ransacked and the victim's tattoo equipment was damaged along with the TV. The home also had garbage and spices thrown throughout the home. The suspect is a known to the victim.

Theft from vehicle – 2100 blk. Elsie St. - between 1/24/17 at 4 PM and 1/25/17 at 6:45 AM – victim reported items taken from vehicle. The items were a yellow and blue WVU backpack, Versace prescription glasses, vehicle registration, insurance, ADHD medication, Pittsburgh School security jacket, and social security documents. Amount of loss is unknown.

Theft from vehicle – 200 blk. Sterling St. - between 1/24/17 at 10:30 and 1/25/17 at 8:20 AM – victim reported items were stolen from vehicle. Oakley sunglasses and loose change was stolen. Loss is $210.

Aggravated assault – Arlington Ave. & Sterling St. - 1/29/17 at 12:20 AM – Officers were summoned for a woman who had been "pistol-whipped". The victim was so severely beaten she slipped in and out of consciousness. The victim had a known person come to the residence. The known person started questioning the victim when victim turned to leave this known person fired a shot at her then "pistol-whipped" the victim. The victim needed stitches to her head.

Arlington Heights (1604)

Beltzhoover (1809)

Burglary – 400 blk. Beltzhoover Ave. - between 1/23/17 at 5:30 PM and 1/24/17 at 1:15 AM - victim reported home was burglarized and a case was stolen from the home. The home was ransacked. The victim's roommate was not available to check and see if anything else was stolen. Loss is at least $500.

Carrick (2901, 2902, 2904)

Theft from vehicle – 2000 blk. Brownsville Rd. - between 1/23/17 at 10 PM and 1/24/17 at 7:30 AM – victim reported theft of multiple items from vehicle. Items stolen were 2 auxiliary charger and cords, Bluetooth, & cricket cell phone. Loss is over $60. The victim stated vehicle could not lock the car due to battery problem.

Criminal Trespass – 1900 blk. Brownsville Rd. - 1/27/17 at 11 PM – a store owner reported a white male came into the business and stolen money from the "tip jar". The owner followed the actor to a local residence. Officers responded to the local residence with the store owner on scene. One resident was outside. The resident explained an unknown male entered the home and refused to leave and the resident's son was still inside. Officers located the unknown male. This male was identified by the store owner as the one who stole money from the business. The resident's son was fine he had a headset on and was unaware of the incident. Officers arrested Michael Wimer once he was positively identified.

Theft from person – 2300 blk. Brownsville Rd. - 1/29/17 at 2:30 AM – victim had her clutch purse stolen from a bar. The victim stated she went to the bathroom and asked her friend to watch the purse. The friend told her a white male wearing white sneakers stole her purse (black and gold Michael Kors). The purse contained cash, birth certificate and social security card. Loss is $368.

Theft from person – 2300 blk. Valera St. - between 1/26/17 at 12 PM and 1/28/17 at 12:42 PM – victim reported firearm was stolen from lunch box. Victim thinks firearm was stolen at work site but not sure. The firearm is a Smith & Wesson M&P 9c with a Blackhawk nylon holster. Amount of loss is over $500.

Burglary – 2500 blk. Brownville Rd. - between 1/27/17 at 6:30 PM and 1/28/17 at 10 AM – employee reported a secured shed on the property was forced open and items were stolen. Loss is $2,450. Items stolen were a orange and white Stihl Farm Boss 20" blade chainsaw, orange and white Stihl weedwhacker model R-650, and an unknown make and model red lawn mower.

Burglary – 300 blk. Spencer Ave. - between 1/28/17 at 11 AM and 1/29/17 at 11:45 AM – home owner called to report forced entry into the home. Entry was made thru the back door window. The owner observed 20 feet in copper pipe had been cut form the basement area. Amount of loss is unknown at this time.

Burglary – 300 blk. Orchard Pl. - between 12/6/16 at 8 AM and 1/21/17 at 6 PM – property owner reported vacant property was burglarized. The front door was pried open and 30-50 feet of copper pipe was stolen along with a Whirlpool washer. Loss is $2,170.

Burglary – 400 blk. Orchard Pl. - between 1/23/17 at 7 AM and 1/24/17 at 4:44 PM – victim called to report home being burglarized on 2 separate occasions. First occurred on 1/23/17. The victim returned home and found the front door unlocked and a note from a woman he just met and a Penguins shirt and Steeler shirt missing. The note stated the woman would be back at 6pm. The next day the victim found his front window shattered and a blue change jar was stolen. The victim gave the name of the woman but was unsure how to spell the last name. Officers had arrested the woman the day before for vandalizing a vehicle not far from the victim's home.

Aggravated Assault – 200 blk. Jucunda St. - 1/25/17 at 11:45 AM – Officers responded to shots fired at Jucunda and Grimes. Upon arrival, officers were notified by 911 a shooting victim had arrived at a local hospital. There was broken glass on scene along with 2 spent and 2 live rounds. The evidence was collected by GVI detectives and the area was canvassed. Detectives have a "lead in the case". The victim was in surgery when officers arrived at the hospital. Also, the person's (who drove the victim to the hospital) car had bullet/projectile damage. The vehicle was processed as well.

Aggravated Assault – 200 blk. Moore Ave. - 1/28/17 at 12:23 AM - Officers responded to a report of someone shot in the 200 block of Moore Avenue. Upon arrival, officers learned the victim had been taken to a local hospital. The victim was a male 15 years of age. The victim is expected to recover from gun shot injury.

Theft from person – 100 blk. Suncrest St. - between 12/1/16 at Midnight and 1/27/17 at 12:46 PM – victim reported her $100 check stolen by her former roommates.

Aggravated assault – Jucunda St. (unknown block) - 1/28/17 at 5 PM – Officers responded to a local hospital for an assault report. Upon arrival, the victim stated he was in an argument with a black male over a parking space. The victim stated he refused to shake the man's hand and the black male pulled a black and yellow object and pointed it at the victim. The victim then felt pain in his arm and realized later he had been shot with an arrow in the arm.
