Sleepovers promise fun at the Science Center

Visitors who love Carnegie Science Center don’t have to let the sun go down on science fun. The Science Center’s Spring Sleepover schedule offers science fans the chance to experience a night at the museum.

Science Sleepovers are an opportunity for family bonding time or for Scout troop and other organizations to enjoy a group activity.

New themes for 2017 include Science that Glows, and girls-only and boys-only Invention Night challenges.

All Science Center sleepovers include access to four floors of exhibits, special themed activities, an Omnimax movie, a planetarium or laser show, a live theater show, and a science workshop. Once it’s time for bed, participants might get to camp out alongside R2-D2 or catch some ZZZs near a space station.

Sleepovers are $39 per person and include a late-night snack and continental breakfast, and free admission for the day following the sleepover. Spring dates and themes for 2017 are:

Feb. 10: Science of Toys

Feb. 24: Engineering

March 3: Boys Only - Invention Challenge

March 17: Slimefest

March 25: Astronomy

March 31: Science That Glows

April 8: Mission Possible

April 21: Robotics

April 29: Colorful Science

May 5: Superhero Science

May 12: Girls Only - Invention Challenge

For kids who aren’t quite ready to spend the night, the Science Center also offers Jammie Jams, an Almost Overnighter with activities wrapping up before bedtime. Grownups and their smaller scientists are invited from 5:30-9 p.m. for an evening of themed activities just for early learners ages 2- 6.

Participants will enjoy make-and-take activities, a live theater show, and story time, along with access to four floors of exhibits. There’s even a pre-bedtime snack. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas, and the cost is $15 per child and $12 per adult. The next Jammie Jam is scheduled for Saturday, March 11.
