South Side council hosting meeting on Wharton housing

The South Side Community Council will host a special meeting with Edwards Communities Development Corp. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 7 p.m. at the Brashear Center, 2005 Sarah Street.

Edwards Communities Development is proposing to build 320-340 housing units with integral parking currently owned by the Atlas Land and Building Corp., in the 2300 block of Wharton Street, South Side. The proposed development will go before the City of Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment seeking variances to construct a multi-unit residence in a UI zoning district, that is 5.5 stories and 536 feet in length.

Barbara Rudiak, president of the South Side Community Council, said it is important for the community to have an understanding of what is planned so that they can indicate their support of concerns to the zoning board.
