Suspect caught in Knoxville

James Vince Gianella Jr.

Zone 3 Officers were sent to the 100 block of Redlyn Street in Knoxville for a burglary in progress on November 1 at approximately 11:22 p.m.

According to police, neighbors heard noises in a garage across the street from their homes. Officers approached the garage and saw one of the windows was dislodged and on the ground.

Police entered the garage and heard shuffling in the corner. They observed a man – later identified as James Vince Gianella Jr., 28, of Carrick – hiding in the garage. He was taken into custody at 11:39 p.m. Officers searched Ganella and discovered he had a knife on him and was wearing body armor.

Police then requested a gun dog be sent to the scene to search for any firearms hidden in the garage where the suspect was hiding. The K-9 located a firearm in a cabinet near where Gianella was hiding. The firearm was discovered to be stolen.

Gianella was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. His arrest clears a bench warrant from the county. Additionally, he is charged with criminal trespass, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief and firearms not to be carried without a license.
