Ormsby Recreation Center has a full schedule of fall activities
Ormsby Recreation Center, 79, S. 22nd Street, is kicking off fall with a full slate of activities for kids and adults.
Youth activities include:
Kindersports on Fridays from 10-11:30 a.m. for children and their parents or guardians. The free program for ages 5 and under includes playtime in the gym along with story time, snacks and crafts.
Pee Wee Soccer for ages 4-6 is on Saturdays through October 29. Kids will learn the fundamentals of soccer. There will be no competitive game play and all children will receive a t-shirt and participation medal. There is a $20 fee for Pee Wee Soccer.
Mission Mentor is a free program for girls ages 10-14 on Mondays from 6-7 p.m. The girls’ mentoring and leadership group gathers to discuss relevant issues for adolescent girls. The program includes personal journaling, discussion, volunteering and school and job preparedness. Mission Mentor continues through October 31.
Youth Soccer, a three-on-three league focuses on player development as well as giving youth the chance to compete. Teams will be created based on skill-level. A $20 participation fee includes a team t-shirt and a medal. The program takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays through November 3. Ages 7-9 will meet from 6-7 p.m. and ages 10-12 from 7-8 p.m.
Youth Basketball Clinic will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays through November 3. Boys and girls will learn the basics of basketball through recreational, fun drills. Following instruction, participants will be placed on teams to compete. The Youth Basketball Clinic is held at the Arlington Recreation Center. Ages 7-9 will meet from 6-7 p.m. and ages 10-12 from 7-8 p.m. There is a $10 fee for the program.
A Night to Write is a poetry group for aspiring writers as well as those looking to just explore their creative side. The free program for ages 10-15 will introduce participants to different poets and styles of writing and have them begin to develop their own poetry book. The program on Wednesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. culminates with an open mic night.
Evening Walk-Fit welcomes ages 14 and up to come for a fun and easy way to exercise by walking, side-stepping, kicking and moving to music. The program includes walking and 20-30 minutes of light weight workout. Participants in the free program should bring their own weights. Evening Walk Fit takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. September 19 through October 27.
Morning Walk-Fit for ages 18 and up is a class designed for those looking to start off slow. The class includes a one-mile fun walk and stretching using light weights. Participants should bring their own weights. The free class meets Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m. through October 19.
Adult Dek Hockey League for ages 18 and up takes place on Mondays from 6-8 p.m. through November 8. Rosters include five members and will play three-on-three with a goalie. Participants may bring their own teams, or be placed on a team. Cost is $20 and includes team shirt and prize for winning team.
An 18 and up Book Club will meet at the center on the third Wednesday of the month beginning September 21 from 7:15-8:30 p.m. The free program includes refreshments, served along with good conversation. The first book will be selected at the September meeting.
