Zone 3 Community Crime Alerts July 25-July 31
The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: July 25th, 2016 thru July 31st, 2016.
Duquesne Heights (1911)
Theft from person – 1 Trimont Lane – 7/27 between 1:00 PM and 8:45 PM – Reporting person states her mother/victim is in the hospital and her phone went missing. She had tracked it to this location. The phone could not be located.
Criminal trespass – 1000 blk. Virginia Ave. – 7/30 between 5:57 AM and 6:05 PM – Reporting person told officers he observed the suspect attempting to get into his house. The suspect fled before officers arrival. As they were checking the area, officers were flagged sown by a neighbor who stated a male was trying to get into a house. The officers saw the suspect inside an open front door and placed under arrest after learning he had no reason to have been inside the house. Arrested was 23 y.o. Adam Antalik of Mt. Washington.
Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)
Stolen auto – 100 blk. Amabell St. – between 7/28 at 8:30 PM and 7/29 at 6:00 AM – Victim states he had parked and locked his truck at his residence. In the morning, he discovered his truck was gone. (Recovered 8/4 at 2:39 AM – Officers spotted the stolen truck in the Mt. Washington area. When they attempted to pull the truck over, a pursuit ensued with the occupants fleeing on foot. After finally stopping at Greenleaf and Fingal Sts., the 3 occupants were apprehended, all 3 were juveniles; the WM 15 yo. And the BM 15 y.o. were charged and taken to Shuman Center, the female was not charged and released to a guardian).
Stolen auto – 300 blk. Bingham St. – 7/30 between 12:50 AM and 12:53 AM – Victim states while he was in the bar, someone had apparently stolen his keys which he had set down. Exterior video shows someone getting into the victim’s car and driving away. PA plate FL591QFK, 2008 black Mitsubishi outlander.
Burglary (business) – 200 blk. Virginia Ave. – between 7/25 at 11:00 PM and 7/26 at 8:00 AM – Victim states suspects gained entry into the business and stole approximately $300 and 4 packs of cigarettes. Evidence was located on the property and would be processed.
Burglary #2 (business) – 200 blk. Virginia Ave. – 7/29 at 1:30 AM – Victim reports hearing noises on the side of the business. When she looked outside, she saw the suspect with tools attempting to break into the business. She yelled out to him and he fled on a bicycle. The suspects left behind told consisting of a flashlight, yellow pry tool, red pry tool, bolt cutters and a clear plastic baggie. The suspect is described as a WM between 14-19 y.o., with a small build and brown hair, wearing a black t-shirt and multi colored shorts of yellow, blue and red.
Stolen auto – 300 blk. Boggs Ave. – 7/29 at 8:40 PM – Victim states he parked his car and was waiting for his friend when he saw someone get into his car and drive off. (Recovered – Chartiers Ave – 7/29 at 9:20 PM - Zone 6 officers located the stolen car and conducted a stop. 3 WF juveniles were taken into custody. Their ages are 15, 16, and 17. Also recovered in their possession were 2 stolen firearms. All 3 were charged and taken to Shuman Center.)
Burglary – 200 blk. Grandview Ave. - between 7/30 at 5:07 PM and 7/31 at 11:07 AM – Victim reports suspect gained entry into his house which is being remodeled, through the basement door. The suspect(s) made a meal from frozen food which was in the victim’s freezer. They also utilized their bathroom, leaving it a mess with excrement. Stolen were 4 chrome watches, valued at $1000.
Theft from person – 200 blk. Leila St. – 7/27 at 1:36 PM – Victim states suspect took a package delivered by Fed Ex. Victim has surveillance video of the suspect. Items stolen were butane cylinders and mosquito repellent. Value $20.
South Shore (1921)
Theft from vehicle – Criminal mischief – S. 2nd and E. Carson sts. – 7/28 between 2:40 PM and 11:43 PM – Victim returned to this parked car and observed suspect had smashed the window and had stolen approximately $5 in change from the center console.
Theft from person – 200 blk. Station Square Dr. – 7/24 between 5:15 PM and 6:30 PM – Victim states while she was working as a server, she placed her cell phone on a shelf behind the hostess counter. She discovered suspect had stolen it. Value $544.
Theft from person – 200 blk. Station Square Dr. – 7/29 between 5:55 PM and 6:01 PM – Victim states she had set her phone down on her desk and when she returned, it was gone. Unk value.
South Side Flats (1702, 1609)
Aggravated assault/recklessly endangering another person/criminal mischief/fleeing a police officer/criminal trespass/threat to use weapons of mass destruction/reckless driving/traffic control signals/escape – 3300 blk. E. Carson St. – 7/26 at 10:48 AM – A traffic officer observed a dump truck traveling a high rate of speed, speeding around stopped cars at a red light failing to stop for the light and nearly struck vehicles. The officer attempted to pull the truck over and the driver refused to stop. At 33rd St., the driver suddenly turned left towards the motorcycle officer in the attempt to cause the officer to crash, to which the officer had to take evasive action. The driver pulled up to and stopped at the gate to the FBI building on 33rd St. In speaking with the officer, the driver indicated he had explosives. After several commands, the driver backed up the truck then drove thru the entrance gate to FBI property and rammed into a barrier plate, then truck became airborne and struck a light pole. He was approached by officers who then placed him into custody. It was determined the truck did not contain any type of explosives. The damage at this time to FBI property is believed to be at $350,000. The driver was medically cleared for incarceration and while leaving the hospital, attempted to run from officers. He was again placed into custody and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Arrested is Thomas Ross of New Waterford, OH.
Theft from person – 70 blk. Hot Metal St. – between 7/22 at 5:30 PM and 7/23 at 9:00 AM – Victim states he locked his bicycle up in the parking garage at a bike rack. When he returned, he found it was gone along with the lock. The bicycle is a Gary Fisher Mambo mountain bike with white lettering and 29” wheels. Value $750.
Theft from vehicle – 10 Terminal Way – 7/25 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM – Victim had parked her car and when she returned after work, she found the suspect had broken out a window and taken the car radio.
Robbery – S. 20th and Sarah St. – 7/25 at 11:50 PM – Victim was sitting in her car before going to her house. Her car door was slightly open when the suspect opened it fully and told her it was a robbery and to give him her money and belongings. Initially she fought with him and then saw he held a gun. At that time, she gave him her white book bag. The suspect fled on foot. He is described as a WM with grey scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a long sleeve shirt and a black baseball cap which he wore backwards. Inside the book bag was $14, debit and credit cards, nursing book a daily planner and 2 prescription bottles.
Robbery – S. 18th St. and South Side river front park access Rd. – 7/25 between 11:25 PM and 11:32 PM – Victim reports 2 suspects without shirts struck him the side of his face knocking him to the ground. The suspects took his bag of food. Victim became uncooperative with officers when they inquired about his personal information.
Theft from person – 100 blk. S. 19th St. – 7/26 between 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM – Victim reports her bicycle was stolen from where she had locked it up on the side of her house. 16” black, Trek 3500 mountain bike, extended handle bars. Value $490.
Theft form vehicle – S. 17th & E. Carson sts. – 7/25 between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM – Victim states suspect gained entry into his unlocked truck and took a lunch box which contained his wallet and medications.
Theft from vehicle (firearm) – 10 blk. S. 13th St. – 7/26 between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM – Victim reports his firearms was stolen from the center console of his truck. He was not sure if he had locked the truck or not. No sign of forced entry. Value $400.
Theft from vehicle – 1700 blk. E. Carson St. (Carey Way) – 7/27 at 7:10 PM – Victim parked his car behind the business. When he later went to his car, he discovered money missing from the car. A review of nearby video cameras show a BM suspect wearing shorts and a black t-shirt and a black back pack opened up the car door and took the money and fled on foot.
Theft from business/Theft by failure to make required disp. Of funds – 1700 blk. E. Carson St. – 1/1/05 thru 7/27/16 – Reporting person states the suspect/employee was using the company credit cards for personal use and discovered more than $130,000 was missing from accounts from the business.
Theft by deception – 1500 blk. E. Carson St. – 7/27 at 10:50 AM – The owner reports a former employee/suspect, who is an addict, pretended to another employee that he was hired back. The suspect took the cash drawer and ran out the back door. Missing is $200.
Theft from person – 1900 blk. Jane St. – 7/8 thru 7/26 – Victim reports 5 thefts of delivered packages to her residence. Items stolen were 2 hand held steamers, dice, and 2 key boxes. Value $125.
Theft from vehicle – 20 blk. S. 10th St. – between 7/27 at 6:30 PM and 7/28 at 7:10 AM - Victim reports his company vehicle was broken into while it was parked in the hotel parking lot. Stolen was a laptop, thumb drive and a prescription.
Theft from vehicle – S. 14th and E. Carson sts. – 7/29 between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM – Victim reports her book bag was stolen from her vehicle after the suspect broke out the front passenger window. Inside the book bag was perfume. Value $110.
Theft from vehicle – S. 15th and Bingham sts. – between 7/29 at 10:30 PM and 7/30 at 3:20 AM – Victim states her left front window had been smashed and stolen was a $405 Coach purse and a $30 Iphone car charger.
Simple assault – S. 12th and E. Carson sts. – 7/30 at 2:30 AM – Officers observed males fighting in the street. When they pulled up to their location, they stopped fighting and some fled. The victim had a laceration on his forehead. The victims states they were jumped by the suspects.
Theft from person – South Side – between 7/12 and 7/26 – Victim, who is homeless, states someone stole her prescription. She does not know the exact location or time when this had occurred.
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief – 100 blk. S. 4th St. – between 7/28 at 8:00 PM and 7/29 at 2:00 PM – Victim states suspect broke out he left front window of his vehicle and took his wallet. Inside the wallet were 2 credit cards and 1 debit card.
Bon Air (1806)
South Side Slopes (1706, 1608)
Burglary – 20 blk Keibs Way – between 7/22 and 7/29 – Victims reports various hand tools and electric tools were stolen from the residence. The residence was being renovated. Value $1,235.
Burglary – 1900 blk. Bauldauf St. – 7/28 between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM – Victims report someone gained access to their residence through a rear window which had been forced open. Stolen were 3 money banks, 1 Play station console, 2 Play station controllers, 12 Play station games, an opal necklace, a gold rope necklace with a gold cross and rose charm, sapphire white gold ring, ruby gold ring, and change from a jar. Value $2,180.
Theft from vehicle – 1900 blk. Huron St. – between 7/29 at 10:00 PM and 7/30 at 7:00 AM – Victim reports a bicycle was stolen from the bike rack on the back of her parked vehicle – Value $300.
Theft from person – 1800 blk. St. Paul St. – between 7/30 at 5:00 PM and 7/31 at 12:00 PM – Victim reports a bicycle was stolen from the back porch during the night. Value $1,300.
Theft from person – S. 18th St. and Arlington Ave. – between 6/6 and 7/25 – Victim states she had left her cell phone in a car in which she was riding. She later found her phone had been left in the car. She contacted the suspect on her stolen phone and the suspect keeps telling her she will be returning the phone but has not done so. Value$160.
Stolen auto – 50 blk. Millbridge St. – 7/25 between 12:20 PM and 12:21 PM – Victim reports she left her car parked and running in from of her residence. She came out to see it being driven away. On 7/26 at 1:48 PM, the victim recovered her in the Robinson Mall parking lot with the key inside of it.
Burglary – 10 blk. Renwick St. – 7/26 between 10:30 AM and 12:15 PM – Victim reports suspect forced entry through his basement door using a pry tool. Missing were items that were kept under a floor board under his mattress. Stolen were prescriptions valued at $94.99
Theft from vehicle – 800 blk. Carnival Way – 7/27 between 12:00 PM and 12:10 PM – Victim states he gave his friend/suspect keys to his car to retrieve something from it. During that time, the suspect took items belonging to the victim. The victim confronted the suspect and was told he would give him back the items. Missing is $400 and 4 lottery scratch off tickets valued at $60.
Theft from person – 800 blk. E. Warrington Ave. – 7/30 between 8:00 PM and 8:05 PM – Victim states his cell phone was stolen by a known suspect. Value $100.
Theft from person – 20 blk. Curtain Ave. – 7/22, reported 7/25 – Victim states he put his bag on his front porch and went back inside his residence. 30 minutes later had come back out to find it was gone. Inside the bag was his Fed Ex work ID and a cell phone. Value$100.
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief – 10 blk. Climax St. – between 7/26 at 9:00 PM and 7/27 at 10:20 AM – Victim reports the suspect smashed out the left front window and took the car radio.
Burglary – 200 blk. Beltzhoover Ave. – 7/29 between 4:35 PM and 4:44 PM – Reporting person states she heard noise coming from the vacant apartment next to hers. She observed 2 suspects leaving carrying a washer. It was discovered a glass pane on the door was broken which is believed how they gained access to the vacant apartment. The landlord stated there should not be anyone in that apartment. Value $450.
Stolen auto – between 7/29 at 6:00 PM and 7/30 at 1:15 AM – Victim states she had parked her car overnight and discovered it missing in the morning. She had both sets of keys. Her purse had been inside the car which contained $500. Stolen also was a bank card, printer, various clothing and a prescription.
Mount Oliver (1607)
Theft from person – 200 blk. Fernleaf St. – 7/25 between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM – Victim reports $500 taken from a gun safe. He believes his grandson to have taken it.
Arlington Heights (1604)
Theft from person - 400 blk. Dawes St. – 7/26 between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM – Victim reports after getting high with a friend, he hid $1000 in his house. After his friend left the victim’s residence, the victim discovered the money was gone. He spoke with the suspect about it and was told that he, the victim, had hidden it in the woods. Victim did not see the suspect take any money.
Overbrook (3204, 3207)
Burglary – 2200 blk. Walton Ave. – between 7/23 and 7/31 – Victims state they had left their residence in the care of a neighbor and so their dog could be cared for while on vacation. They had their alarm system code set specially for this neighbor. They came home to find jewelry missing from a safe which was behind a concealed panel. The alarm company has records of entry and exit using the code, no reports of alarms had come through. Missing is a diamond bracelet and 2 diamond rings. Value $3,900.
Theft - 2600 blk. Saw Mill Run Blvd. – between 3/18 and 7/25 – Reporting person states items had been in a storage a room until he noticed they were missing. Items are turnbuckles, rigging and ring posts (for boxing). Value $5000.
Carrick (2901, 2902, 2904)
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief – 1700 blk. Saw Mill Run Blvd.- between 7/23 and 7/25 – Reporting person states two work trucks were parked on the property back to back to prevent anyone from getting on the property. It was discovered the suspect(s) had popped the locks on the drivers’ side and had stolen multiple construction tools. Taken were drill sets, saws, grinders, sawzall, drills and hammer drills; approximately 25 tools at this time. Unk value.
Theft from business – 1700 blk. Saw Mill Run Blvd. – between 7/28 at 5:30 PM and 7/29 at 6:30 AM – Reporting person states suspect(s) broken into the mobile storage unit and took construction tools. A chain saw, rail saw, grinder, and a generator were taken. Value $3200.
Theft from business/criminal mischief – Moredale St. at Level Way – between 7/28 at 10:00 PM and 7/29 at 5:00 AM – Reporting person states suspect(s) broke the locks off the conex boxes. Taken was an electric boat motor. Unk value.
Stolen auto – 1900 blk. Redrose Ave. – 7/25 between 2:30 AM and 3:30 AM – Victim reports her son had parked her car, possibly not locking it. It was discovered the car was gone. PA plate JYA1823, 2006 blue GMC Envoy. Inside the car was her son’s wallet which contained his ID car.
Theft from person/access device fraud – 1800 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/27 – Victim reports someone took her debit card and made transactions totaling $310.
St. Clair (1606)
Burglary – 300 blk. Arabella St. – 7/25 between 5:15 AM and 3:00 PM – Victim came home to find her residence had been broken into. Forced entry was observed to her front wooden door. Taken were a Play station 4, 2 PS4 controllers, a PS game, and money orders totaling $300.
Aggravated assault/recklessly endangering another person – criminal mischief – 300 blk. McKinley St. – 7/26 between 2:25 AM and 2:41 AM – The victim who is a pizza delivery driver. He reports he was making a delivery when two suspects came out from between two buildings with one holding a gun. After being confronted by the suspects, the victim ran back to his car, and heard shots being fired while doing so. Nothing was taken from the victim, nor was he injured in this incident.
Theft from person – 600 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/27 between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM – Victim states she went into work early and when she went to punch in at the cash register, she set her wallet down. After punching in, she went back to her wallet which was gone. Two managers told the victim they reviewed video surveillance and did not see any wallet.
Burglary (business) – 200 blk. Bausman St. – between 7/27 at 9:00 PM and 7/28 at 11:59 AM – Victim states he found the front door to his business shattered with the dead bolt unlocked. The interior of the business was ransacked. Stolen was a television, antique small cast iron cash register with silver dollars and wheat pennies inside and a picture frame with rare currency inside.
