Zone 3 Community Crime Alert for July 18-24
The following are the Part I crimes for the week of: July 18th, 2016 thru July 24th, 2016.
Duquesne Heights (1911)
Mt. Washington (1903, 1914, 1915, 1807)
Theft from person/access device fraud/identity theft – 400 blk. Kambach St. – between 7/16 at 12:00 AM and 7/17 at 12:00 AM – Victim states she had friends at her residence. She discovered her debit cards were missing and withdrawals made. $500 was taken from her bank account. She believes she knows who the suspect is.
Theft from person – 400 blk. Winton St. – between 7/22 at 3:00 PM and 7/23 at 9:00 AM – Victim states 3 bicycles had been stolen from inside the fence of the residence.
Theft from vehicle – 90 blk. Laclede St. – between 7/23 at 3:00 PM and 7/24 at 11:30 AM – Victim states he had forgotten to lock his car doors. He discovered his wallet missing from the center console. In addition to the wallet, $26, social security card, insurance card and the console tray were taken.
Theft by deception – 200 blk. Norton St. – between 7/18 and 7/22 – Victim reports she received a phone call from the “Treasury Office” saying she owed back taxes and needed to pay or go to jail. She was told to purchase Itunes gift cards as payment. She purchased $35,000 in cards from various stores and was told to pay more. She purchased an additional $15,000. In speaking with her sister, she realized it was a scam.
Stolen auto – 300 blk. Grace St. – between 7/24 at 7:00 PM and 7/24 at 12:00 PM – Victim reports her car was stolen.
*On 7/25, officers in Zone 6 recovered the stolen car which was wrecked into a fence.
Aggravated assault/criminal attempt homicide – 400 blk. Norton St. – 7/24 at 4:26 AM – Victim and witnesses report shots fired and the victim being struck in the upper leg. An older white Plymouth sedan was seen fleeing the scene.
South Shore (1921)
Criminal trespass – 200 blk. Station Square Dr. – 7/18 between 8:00 PM and 8:08 PM – Witness states she observed the suspect enter into a locked kiosk and push buttons on the cash register. The suspect was detained by officers and it was determined he did not have permission to be inside the kiosk. He was transported for incarceration. Arrested was 52 y.o. John Barrett of Bellevue.
South Side Flats (1609, 1702)
Theft from vehicle – S. 22nd St. lot near Wharton St. – 7/14 between 12:30 PM and5:00 PM – Victim reports he may have left his car unlocked. When he returned to his car, he found his bass guitar and its case were gone. Value $470.
Theft from person – 2200 blk. Larkins Way – 7/21 between 12:00 PM and 10:00 PM – Victim reports her son’s bicycle was chained to a fence across the street from their residence. They found the suspect had cut the lock and the bike was gone. The bike is a black Mongoose 21 speed bicycle. Value $280.
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief - S. 13th at Muriel Sts. – between 7/20 at 5:00 PM and 7/21 at 6:30 AM – Victim discovered her car window had been smashed and 2 wallets had been taken. One wallet was a Louis Vuitton valued at $600. $50 cash was taken also.
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief – 1200 blk. E. Carson St. – between 7/20 at 11:30 PM and 7/21 aat4:00 AM – Victim discovered his car window had been shattered and a pair of Oakley sunglasses were taken. Value $75.
Theft from vehicle – 13th and E. Carson Sts. – between 7/21 at 10:30 PM and 7/22 at 12:30 AM – Victim found suspect had gained entry into her car. She believes she had locked the doors, and there was no apparent forced entry damage. Missing was her purse and cellphone. Value $700.
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief – S. 12th and Muriel Sts. – between 7/21 at 6:00 PM and 7/22 at 8:20 AM – Victim states he found his car to have a smashed window and an Apple Ipad missing. Value $500.
Stolen auto – S. 20th and Sarah Sts. – 7/24 between 12:00 AM and 2:00 AM – Victim states he discovered his car had been stolen. PA plate HGR7496, 2010 burgundy Nissan Altima.
Robbery of a motor vehicle/robbery – 1500 blk. E. Carson St. – 7/24 between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM - Victim states he bumped into the rear of the car in front of him. When the driver approached him he was prepared to exchange information. Instead, the suspect told him to give him his watch. The suspect took the watch and jumped into the victim’s car and drove away. The suspect’s car was driven off by a female who had been inside the car. The victim waited 10 hours later to report the incident.
South Side Slopes (1608, 1706)
Burglary – 2300 blk. Patterson – 7/18 between 10:30 Am and 5:20 PM – Victim state suspect gained entry into their home. They discovered their rear door open and the rear window next to it was broken. Stolen was 3 bottles of liquor, 2 six packs of beer, PS4 controller, wireless headset and 6 PS4 games. Value $600.
Burglary – 2300 blk. Mission St. – between 7/18 at 10:30 PM and 7/19 at 9:30 AM – The reporting person had been house sitting for a friend and when he checked the residence in the morning he discovered the rear window was smashed. At the time, he reports the flat screen television was missing. When the victim returns, he will check for further missing items.
Burglary – 1400 blk. Eleanor St. – between 7/15 and 7/19 – Victim reports he was doing work at a rental property. He reports a 5 gallon bucket of paint, 1 gallon of paint 5 rollers and 1 roller extension rod were taken. He states the rear window had been open and no forced entry was observed. Value $243.
Theft from vehicle – 2300 blk. Eccles St. – 7/22 between 4:30 AM and5:26 AM – Victim reports he parked his car with the window partly open. When he returned to it later, he found the suspect forced the window down. Stolen from the car was his Samsung cellphone and Nintendo 3DS. Value $550.
Theft from person – 2300 blk. Berg St. – 7/24 between 2:00 PM and 5:30 PM – Victim reports she chained her brown and white boston terrier dog to the rear porch and left her house. When she returned, the dog and the chain were gone. Value $500.
Theft from vehicle/Criminal mischief – 200 blk. S. 18th St. – between 7/20 at 11:00 PM and 7/21 at 7:30 AM – Victim reports her car window was smashed out and items taken. Nike tennis shoes and an empty purse were stolen. Value $450.
Theft from person – 2100 blk. St. Leo St. – 7/23 between 12:00 PM and 11:59 PM – Victim reports her laptop was stolen while she was not at home. Her roommate was the only one home at the time and suspects him. Value $1,000.
Robbery (business)/terroristic threats – 700 blk. E. Warrington Ave. – 7/19 between 8:40 AM and 8:41 AM – Employee/victim reports a female suspect demanded money from the register stating she had a gun. The victim saw an outline of a gun underneath her shirt and did give the suspect money. The suspect fled towards Millbridge St.
Theft from person – 600 blk. E. Warrington Ave. – 7/18 between 12:00 PM and 11:30 PM – Victim reports someone stole a black card table and 4 folding chairs from her front porch. Value $70.
Theft from vehicle/criminal mischief – Allen St. and Carnival Way – 7/21 between 12:30 AM and 9:15 AM – Reporting person found the car window smashed and items missing from his father’s car. Missing were old constable clothing.
Theft from vehicle – 500 blk. Cedarhurst St. – between 7/22 at 9:30 PM and 7/23 at 9:30 AM – Victim reports a siding brake was taken from his vehicle. Unk value.
Burglary/Simple assault – 2400 blk. Charcot St. – 7/19 at 9:35 AM – Victim heard banging downstairs and left her apartment to investigate. She saw the BM suspect dressed in dark clothing pointing a gun at her. She yelled and fled back into her apartment. The first floor tenant heard the victim yell and looked out to see the suspect holding a gun, walking away and in between the houses.
Criminal attempt burglary/criminal mischief - 200 blk. Rothman St. – 7/20 at 2:30 AM – Witness called 911 due to seeing 3 suspects attempting to gain entry into the residence of a neighbor. Upon police arrival, a rear door was found to be unlocked. The officers cleared the interior and located the resident/victim who had been asleep. He was unaware anyone had been inside his residence or anyone trying to get in. Nothing was found to be missing. The suspects had fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
Criminal mischief – 100 blk. Dengler St. – 7/22 at 10:22 PM – Victim discovered damage to his pool which caused the water to drain out. After reviewing his surveillance video, he saw who he believes is his neighbor who he has been having a dispute with, come into his yard then flee when the flood light was triggered.
Arlington Heights (1604)
Mt. Oliver City (1607)
Stolen auto – 500 blk. Ormsby St. – between 7/17 at 11:00 PM and 7/18 at 11:00 AM – Victim states she had been allowing the suspect stay at her house for a few weeks. When she woke this morning, she saw her car keys and car were gone. PA plate KDN4013, white 2016 Chevrolet Cruz.
Bon Air (1806)
Carrick (2901, 2902, 2904)
Theft from person/ access device fraud – 30 blk. Nobles Lane – 7/18 between 8:00 AM and8:30 AM – Known suspect used the victim’s debit card to make a purchase. This was done without her permission, however in the past the suspect has been permitted to use the card.
Theft from vehicle – 100 blk. Poplargrove St. – between 7/17 at 3:00 AM and 7/18 at 7:00 AM – Victim reports someone made entry into her vehicle and took $12 in change and small bills.
Theft from person – 2500 blk. Brownsville Rd. – 7/18 between 5:01 PM and 5:24 PM – Victim reports the suspect asked to use his phone to make a call. He did give him his phone. After making the call the suspect returned the phone and began to walk away. The suspect asked again if he could use the phone again. The victim gave the phone to him and the suspect fled the scene. Value $550.
Criminal Homicide – 20 blk. Merritt Ave. – 7/23 at 20:22 PM – Officers responded to the residence for a person stabbed. The victim was unresponsive and a knife was recovered near the suspect. 30 y.o. Monica Brown of Carrick was detained by officers and was charged with Homicide.
Overbrook (3204, 3207)
Theft from person – 2000 blk. Walton Ave. – between 6/27 and 7/15 (reported 7/22) – Victim states while he was away, his wife allowed the suspect to stay at their residence for 3 weeks off and on. The victim reports items stolen are a Breitling Super Avenger man’s 49 MM stainless steel watch, U Boat man’s watch with blk rubber strap and green and black dial, and an engagement ring with a ¾ carat diamond. Value $13,000.
St. Clair (1606)
Criminal Homicide – 200 blk. Zara St. – 7/17 at 10:20 PM – Officers responded to the report of fight call which resulted in a child being shot prior to officers arrival. The 6 y.o. victim was taken by medics to Children’s hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Arrested was 19 y.o. Kamau Thomas, Jr.
Theft from person – 200 blk. Arabella St. – between 7/17 at 2:00 PM and 7/18 at 8:30 AM – Victim states suspect took a gas grill from her back porch. Value $300.
Robbery/Intimidation of a witness – 100 blk. Jucunda St. – between 7/16 at 11:50 PM and 7/17 at 12:05 AM – Victim reports she was assaulted by a carload of suspects. She had been lured to reveal her location by a suspect, to which she provided. The victim sustained multiple injuries including a swollen face, a black eye, and bruising to her face. Taken from the victim was her cell phone and shoes. Value $300. It is believed that she was attacked sue to her being a witness in which her friend had been assaulted in a neighboring borough.
Robbery of motor vehicle/receiving stolen property/stolen auto/fleeing and eluding a police officer/recklessly endangering another person and other traffic offenses – Dove Way and Knox Ave. – 7/19 at 8:07 PM – Officers were flagged down by witness who stated the suspect took his brother’s car while it was running and the victim being present. The officers checked the area and found the car. A traffic stop was attempted to which the suspect fled in the vehicle. The officers pursued the car until it crashed and became disabled. The driver/suspect refused to comply with officer to stop resisting arrest and a struggle ensued. The suspect was forcibly handcuffed after struggling with police. During the transport to the Allegheny County Jail, the suspect spontaneously stated to officers that he stole the car because someone stole his bike. Arrested was 27 y.o. Dale Shaffer was arrested.
