Lauren Shuty is this year's County girls marble champion


The Allegheny County Parks Department has announced the winners of the 2016 County Marbles Tournament, which took place June 2-4 in the Courthouse Courtyard.

 In the girls’ division, 12-year-old Lauren Shuty of the South Side Flats was crowned champion, and 12-year-old Madison Johnson of Lawrenceville was the runner-up. In the boys’ division, 13-year-old Bob Narr of Lawrenceville took the championship, and 13-year-old Eli Murphy of Squirrel Hill was the runner-up.

Allegheny County’s winners and runners-up will compete in the 93nd Annual National Marbles Championship June 20-24 in Wildwood, N.J.

 Allegheny County’s marbles program has produced a number of girls and boys national champions, including 10 in the last 12 years: Emily Cavacini in 2013; Bailey Narr and Brandon Matchett in 2011; Penelope Bauer in 2010; Amber Ricci and John Leffakis in 2008; Alexandra Bauer in 2007; Keith Moss in 2006; Jamie Miller in 2005; and Carly Miller in 2004.
