Farmers' Market checks distribution is in area senior centers on June 14


Allegheny County Department of Human Services Area Agency on Aging (AAA) will be administering the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

This program benefits eligible older adults by providing a set of four checks for a total of $20 to purchase locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables.

Checks will be distributed on Tuesday, June 14 through the AAA senior center network. First come, first served. The checks can be spent through November 30 on produce grown in Pennsylvania at participating Farmers’ Markets. Those who are eligible but unable to get to a senior center may designate a proxy to pick up and redeem the checks. There is a limit of two proxy forms per person.

Senior centers in the South Pittsburgh area distributing checks include: Allentown Senior Center, 631 E. Warrington Avenue, 1-3 p.m. and at the Henry Kaufmann Center, 2001 Salisbury Street from 9-11 p.m .; The Citiparks – Healthy Active Aging Centers, Mt. Washington Center, 122 Virginia Avenue from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 to 5:30 p.m. and the South Side Market House, 12th and Bingham streets from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 to 5:30 p.m .; the LifeSpan Knoxville Center, 320 Brownsville Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m .; and, the Overbrook Seton Center, 2199 Dartmore Street from 9-11 a.m.

To be eligible for the checks seniors must: be an Allegheny County resident; be age 60 or older before December 31; not live in a residential facility providing meals; and meet income requirements - $21,978 annual gross income for a one-person household and $29,637 for a two-person household.
