Carrick Alumni Assoc. to honor two grads


The Carrick High Alumni Association will honor two members of the Class of 1966 as Distinguished Alumni on Sunday, May 22 at the 50th Anniversary Reunion luncheon of the class in the Grand Ballroom of the South Hills Country Club in Whitehall.

Dr. Paul Sweet of Oneonta, NY and Funeral Director Edward Tatko will be honored.

Dr. Sweet, achieved the rank of Commander, U.S. Navy Reserves, in the Navy Medical Corps. He was a high honor graduate of Carrick High, a Cum Laude graduate of Lake Forest College, Ill and a 1974 graduate of The University of Pittsburgh’s Medical School.

He performed his Naval residencies in the Philadelphia and Bethesda, MD Medical Centers in the late 1970s. Currently he is chairman, Department of Otolaryngology at the F.O. Memorial Hospital in Oneonta and has his private practice with the Ear, Nose & Throat Associates in Oneonta.

Dr. Sweet has had four academic appointments between 1979 and 1983; is a member of 12 medical societies including the American Medical Association and has taken as many as 55 post graduate courses.

Edward Tatko has been a licensed funeral director for 35 years. After his 1966 graduation at Carrick High, he is also a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

Later he became a partner with the original Cieslak Funeral Home with his aunt, Mara Cieslak. He became the president and supervisor of the newly incorporated Cieslak & Tatko Funeral Home in 1979. In January 2014 he stepped away from the daily operations of the funeral home. He continues to serve as a funeral director.
