South Pittsburgh groups will be represented in biggest Redd Up

More than 500 neighborhoods and groups from Pittsburgh and surrounding counties are and will be participating in community Redd Up events in March, April and May,” said Boris Weinstein of Citizens Against Litter, an organizer of the event.

Many Redd Ups will be held on Saturday, Apr. 16 and Sunday, Apr. 17, a focus weekend of the event.

Based on previous Redd Ups results, tracked since 2006, as many as 20,000 to 25,000 volunteers are expected to take part. Their expected pick up totals will be 450 to 500 tons of litter and trash.

The list of participants has been compiled through contacts directly with Citizens Against Litter and county listings on the Great PA Cleanup website. Mr. Weinstein believes group response is understated by at least 10 to15 per cent.

People interested in volunteering and finding a neighborhood to hook up with should contact Boris Weinstein at 412-688-9120 or e-mail
