Holy Week Services

 


First Lutheran Church

First Lutheran Church, downtown, will host the German community of Pittsburgh for worship on Good Friday, March 25, at 10 a.m.

The Rev. Horst H. Bandle, a native of Germany, will preside over the liturgy of Holy Communion and preach in the German language.

Founded in 1837, First Lutheran Church is one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in Pittsburgh. The church is at 615 Grant St., across from the US Steel Tower.

Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community

Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community will hold Good Friday services on Friday, March 25 at 8 p.m.

Easter services will be on Sunday, March 27 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. with an Egg Hunt for kids at 11 a.m. ASL interpretation will be offered at the 11:30 a.m. service.

Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community is at 2700 Jane Street, South Side.

Prince of Peace Parish

Prince of Peace Catholic Parish on South Side Holy Week continue this week.

On Wednesday, there will be a Holy Hour at 12:30 p.m. held at St. Adalbert Church and an evening Holy Hour at 5:30 p.m. at St. Peter Church, followed by a Tenebrae service at 6:30 p.m. Tenebrae is a spiritual journey through the final hours of the life and death of Christ, told in word and song.

Holy Thursday Mass, the commemoration of the Last Supper and institution of the Holy Eucharist, will be held at 6 p.m. at St. Adalbert Church with private visitation until 10 p.m.

Good Friday services will commence with the recitation of the Stations of the Cross at noon, followed by the reading of the Passion, adoration of the Holy Cross and Communion at St. Adalbert Church beginning at 1 p.m. Stations of the Cross will also be held Friday evening at St. Peter Church beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The traditional Blessing of Easter Foods (baskets) will be held on Saturday at St. Adalbert Church at noon. The Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday) Mass will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Adalbert Church.

Easter Mass will be at 9 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church and 11 a.m. at St. Peter Church.

St. Adalbert Church is at 160 S. 15th Street and St. Peter Church is at 28th and Sarah streets.

St. Paul of the Cross Monastery

Holy Week and Easter services will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Monastery, 148 Monastery Avenue on the South Side Slopes.

Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place on Wednesday, March 23 from 6-7 p.m.

The Paschal Triduum services include:

Holy Thursday, March 24, Solemn Tenebrae, 9 a.m .; 7 p.m. Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Adoration until 10 p.m.

Good Friday, March 25, 9 a.m. Solemn Tenebrae; noon Prayerful Meditations on the Passion of Jesus; and, 2:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion with Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion.

Holy Saturday, March 26, Solemn Tenebrae at 9 a.m. and the Easter Vigil at 8 p.m.

Easter Sunday includes Mass of Easter at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Sancta Maria Magdalena

Holy Week services at Sancta Maria Magdalena Western Orthodox Church will be held at the Oasis Center, 1912 Brownsville Road.

On Holy Thursday the Divine Liturgy will be at 7 p.m. with the Altar of Repose until midnight.

Visitation of the Seven Churches with the van leaving at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday Evening from the

Oasis Center. Cost is $10 per person with limited seating. Call 412-586-5621 for more information.

Good Friday services, the Passion and Death of Our Lord, will be from 1-3 p.m.

On Holy Saturday, The Paschal Vigil will be at 7p.m.

South Side Presbyterian Church

The South Side Presbyterian Church welcomes all on Maundy Thursday, March 24, for a special Last Supper Remembrance gathering with an informal covered-dish dinner, prayers, and the Lord’s Supper around the tables, beginning at 7 p.m.

All are welcome to share in Communion. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.

On Good Friday, March 25, all are welcome to a simple Good Friday meditation service at noon. The Easter Celebration worship service is at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 27. Following worship, there will be Easter Egg Hunts for children 12 and under as well as treats for older youth too. 

The Church is at South and Sarah streets in South Side, is fully handicap accessible, and Youth Sunday School is provided during Sunday worship. For more information, call 412-431-0118.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Trinity Lutheran Church, 601 Brownsville Road, will hold Holy Week services beginning on Holy Thursday, March 24 at 4:40.

Good Friday services will be on March 25 at 4:30 p.m.

Easter will begin with a breakfast buffet from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. followed by Worship services at 11:15 a.m.
