Industry on Industry bringing artists to Allentown

This month, the Hilltop Alliance is launching a new, innovative program, “Industry on Industry,” which will bring artists and makers to a large warehouse space in Allentown.

The 20,000 sq. ft. building, currently home to a cabinetmaker, woodworker, fabrication artist, and event space, sits at 829 Industry Street, adjacent to the reemerging East Warrington Avenue. The raw, historic warehouse features 20-foot ceilings, steel beams, concrete floors, several loading docks, shared office and bathroom space, and is the perfect location for artists and makers looking for space at an affordable cost. The property is owned by RE360.

“Industry on Industry” is a new subcategory to the Hilltop Alliance’s current rent abatement program, which has helped welcome many new brick and mortar businesses in the past year and a half. In this new program, the Hilltop Alliance will pay for 50 percent of the rent for two years for new artists/makers to locate their business to this property in Allentown.

The program is seeking artists and makers with an interest in becoming part of the larger neighborhood. “We hope to attract community-minded participants who are willing to make Allentown and the Hilltop neighborhoods an integral part of their art and their growing business” said Aaron Sukenik, executive director of the Hilltop Alliance.

Unlike other artist-in-residence and artist co-working space offerings, “Industry on Industry” aspires to keep the participants in the neighborhood long-term - after the rent subsidy - by offering affordable workspace, supporting their business growth and development, and involving them in other community activities.

Applications for the program are due on Friday, March 11 at 5 p.m.
