Market House lists March activities

The South Side Market House Senior Center recently welcomes a new employee, Kristin Coyne.

Ms. Coyne is starting a walking group every Friday at the center from 10:30-11:15 a.m. When the weather gets better they plan to walk outside.

The spring semester of CCAC classes begins in March. The county funds this program, which allows teachers from CCAC to come to the center and teach classes for free. Unfortunately, the classes are not available to social members.

The center is beginning a new group called Creative Journaling: A Journey Through Loss, every Tuesdays from 10-11 a.m. Loss is a very common part of most of people’s lives whether it is losing a friend, family member, pet, some independence, or downsizing to a smaller home. This group will have a weekly topic, with both discussion and personal journaling time with provided art supplies in a private setting. Seniors are welcome to bring their own journal, but paper will be available.

The Market House Senior Center’s St. Patrick’s Day Party will be on March 17 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $5. John Marthens will perform with his bagpipes, along with food, bingo, an St. Patrick’s Day Auction, and a Leprechaun Race.

A Dinner and Demo with Chef Simone Saint Esprit will take place on March 18 from 4-6 p.m. for $5. The chef will be providing the group with a French menu and instruction.

The Carnegie Science Center is coming to the center to do a Gumshoe Science interactive presentation on March 23 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. There will be a Hot Dog “Doggie Bar” for dinner following the presentation. The entire evening is $5.
