At approximately 11:48 a.m. on January 19 Pittsburgh police and paramedics responded to the 90 block of Beltzhoover Avenue for the report of a shooting.

The police found a 20 year old man at the scene who had been shot twice. A crime scene was located nearby in Aztec Way. The man was transported to Mercy Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Shortly later, police spotted a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting driving near the West End Bridge. The suspect's vehicle was driving at high rates of speed through traffic and struck two cars before crashing into a retention wall at 28th Street and Liberty Avenue in the Strip District at 11:59 a.m.

The suspect, Darren Ramon White, 24, bailed from the vehicle and a foot pursuit ensued across the 28th Street Bridge. Police apprehended the suspect and took him into custody.

At least one civilian that was in a vehicle struck by the suspect had minor injuries.

White also attempted to escape from Police Headquarters by jumping from the second floor. He fell 18.5 feet to the first floor lobby. Paramedics transported him to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.
