Science Center to host weekend long train extravaganza Jan. 9-10

Locomotion Weekend at Carnegie Science Center, Jan. 9-10, is the year’s biggest celebration of trains and the grand finale of the holiday season.

The Science Center will be packed with special displays and activities from a host of local model train associations and hobbyists. Exhibitors include: Fort Pitt Hi-Railers, Train Collectors Association, Train Collectors Association’s Fort Pitt Kids Club, Pittsburgh “S” – Gaugers, South Hills Model Railroad Club, D.A.R.E. Model Railroad Club, Trolley Museum, Duquesne Incline Association, Operation Lifesaver, and many more. Train lovers of all ages will enjoy the operating train layouts and special hands-on activities.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own model trains for a free checkup by the “Loco Doctor,” which includes basic repairs, cleaning, and oiling.

All of this is in addition to the Miniature Railroad & Village® with its newest feature, the Crawford Grill; a mini-railroad and village around the holiday tree in the main lobby; and a display of Lionel’s iconic advertising art spanning the company’s 115 years.

All activities are included with general admission.

Locomotion Weekend is part of Lionel for the Holidays, presented by Lionel. Locomotion Weekend is sponsored by Isaly’s, Wish 99.7, and Mr. Waterheater.
