Change in mail pick up coming for South Side

Changes are coming for South Side residents and businesses in the 15203 Postal Zip Code.

Beginning the first of the year, those who have received “Notice Left” mail will be required to go to the Mount Oliver Post Office at 140 Brownsville Road to pick up their package or Certified Mail.

According to the Post Office, Notice Left, is when mail requires a signature and cannot be delivered when attempted by a Postal Service employee because no one is available to accept delivery such as with certified mail.

Carter Lee, a supervisor at the Mount Oliver Post Office, said the change is being made to take some pressure off of the clerk in the Carson Street Post Office. He said there is often only one person staffing the counter.

Mr. Lee said this is not a unique practice for the Mount Oliver Post Office; residents in the 15211 Zip Code have had to come to Mount Oliver instead of Mount Washington to pick up their Notice Left mail for several years.
