Vietnam Veterans Memorial in So. Side will be rededicated on Sunday, Nov. 8

A rededication ceremony will be held at the South Side Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial at noon on Sunday, Nov. 8.

The memorial at 18th and E. Carson streets was first dedicated 20 years ago to the eight South Siders who were killed in the Vietnam War. A two-year effort raised the money for the memorial through donations, fundraisers and city and state grants.

Glenn Connor, president of the South Side Vietnam Veterans Memorial, said the ceremony will include the sisters of Sgt. James P. Cryster. Recently, South Side VFW Post 6675 was renamed to honor Sgt. Cryster, who received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts and killed in the line of duty.

Jack Wagner will be the Master of Ceremonies for the rededication. The agenda includes music with Johnny Angel and the Halos, bagpipers and buglers. Officials contacted to participate include County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Mayor Bill Peduto’s office, Councilman Bruce Kraus and State Rep. Harry Readshaw.
