Green n' at, PittServe join to clean, mulch trees in South Side

Pitt students join up with South Side Community Council Green n' at volunteers to clean and mulch trees between 23th and 26th streets on South Side.

On Saturday, July 25, South Side Community Council's Green N At Committee and University of Pittsburgh PittServe volunteers spent the morning cleaning out tree pits on Sarah Street from South 23rd to South 26th streets.

This collaborative effort was the result of PittServes volunteers taking a tour with the South Side Community Council and learning about the organization's efforts to help clean and green up the neighborhood. Students worked alongside council members and neighbors to remove weeds, trash and dog waste from the tree pits. Volunteers installed weed fabric and added mulch to complete the clean up.

Another volunteer day is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2:30-4:30 p.m., with everyone meeting at the South Side Carnegie Library, 22nd and East Carson streets. PittServes volunteers will be helping out again as part of orientation for the new school year.

Those who would like to volunteer, should contact Jenn Holliman at

Funding for this project was provided to the South Side Community Council through the City of Pittsburgh's Community Development Block Grant Program.
