Stormtroopers, special effects featured at the Science Center

Carnegie Science Center will celebrate athe long-standing intersection between real-world science and imagination during its Sci-Fi Weekend July 25-26. The weekend-long event will feature Stormtroopers, green screen photography, and special effects make-up.

Visitors can meet a Stormtrooper, snap a photo in front of the green screen in any sci-fi setting, learn about space travel, build a UFO, and explore the science behind Jurassic Park. The live theater show “Frankenscience” will explore the science that inspired Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” through demonstrations in electricity and hair-raising, shocking experiments on the Van de Graaff generator.

Artists from Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program at the Douglas Education Center will demonstrate how Hollywood make-up can transform an ordinary human into an otherworldly creature.

In addition, the event will explore how human imagination and science fiction have inspired real-world inventions.

Sci-Fi Weekend activities run from 10 am – 5 pm and are included with general admission.
