CLP-Knoxville closing on Saturday for year-long renovations

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Knoxville will temporarily close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 for $3.2 million in building enhancements.

Residents in Knoxville will soon see a dramatic difference in their neighborhood library.

In order to serve the growing needs of the community, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will begin renovations on its Knoxville location. For the past year library staff and designers from GBBN Architects have worked with local residents, community organizations and civic groups to create a plan for an accessible, modern building that meets the demand for expanded children, teen and adult library services.

The $3.2M capital improvements to CLP – Knoxville, 400 Brownsville Road, will include a teen/young adult room, a community meeting space and re-configured children's reading nook. Construction will include a new roof, additional windows to allow for more natural light and a fenced-in outdoor deck.

Replacement of the building's antiquated heating, air conditioning, lighting and electrical systems is also included as part of the plan. The addition of an elevator will bring the building into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

In order to make these much-anticipated improvements, CLP – Knoxville will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. Construction is expected to take one year with an anticipated completion in summer 2016.

While construction is underway, Knoxville residents are encouraged to use nearby CLP – Carrick, 1811 Brownsville Road, as well as any of the other libraries in the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh system and throughout Allegheny County.

Library staff will maintain a presence in the community and continue outreach efforts to schools and community organizations.

During construction, customers may contact CLP – Knoxville staff by email at knoxville@carnegielibrary.org and should visit carnegielibrary.org, for updates, program times and additional library locations.
