Port Authoring holding public hearing, accepting comments on ConnectCard

Port Authority will accept public comment through July 15, and host a public hearing on June 30, regarding its proposal to charge a one-time $5 fee for its ConnectCard.

More than 350,000 ConnectCards have been distributed for free but the authority incurs a cost of about $3/card to purchase the cards and support their use. The proposed $5 charge for new and replacement cards would help the authority financially by covering those costs.

Riders and residents who currently do not have a ConnectCard still can get a card for free until August 1. Cards are available at participating Giant Eagle locations, other select retailers and the authority’s service center downtown.

Public comments are being accepted online – a form is available through PortAuthority.org. Comments also may be mailed to: Port Authority Public Comments, 345 Sixth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Comments will be accepted until 4 p.m. on July 15.

The public hearing is scheduled for June 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4-6 p.m.  The hearing will be held in the Port Authority’s Board Room, 345 Sixth Avenue, Fifth Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Those wishing to speak may pre-register to reserve a time by calling 412-566-5187 (TTY 412-231-7007) during business hours.
