Beltzhoover shooting investigated

Zone 3 police are investigating a shooting in Beltzhoover at approximately 2:30 a.m. on April 22.

Officers were stopped by someone near the Zone 3 station and told they heard gun shots. After notifying 911, officers were told about a report of gun shots near Sylvania Avenue.

Police were flagged down by the 28-year-old male victim with a gunshot in his leg in the 500 block of Sylvania. The victim told police he got into an argument with a another man and the two struggled over his gun. During the struggle, his weapon discharged five times.

He described the suspect as being a black man, approximately 5’10” tall. The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle.

Police quickly recovered the vehicle, which had been left in the 200 block of Arabella Street. There was blood on the outside of the front passenger door and inside the vehicle.

Officers searched the area for the suspect without finding him.

The victim was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital where he was treated and released.
