Chamber welcomes marathon runners, watchers
The South Side Chamber of Commerce and the South Side Bar and Restaurant Association have partnered with Dick’s Sporting Goods to welcome Pittsburgh Marathon runners at the South Side Welcome Center, corner of 11th and East Carson streets, starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.
Headed eastward, marathoners will run up historic East Carson Street. Residents, business owners and visitors alike are welcome to gather at the Welcome Center to enjoy hot coffee, donuts and bagels as they cheer on the runners and create a lively South Side welcome for the runners.
The Elliotts, a Pittsburgh classic rock band, will entertain the runners at the chamber Welcome Center. Since 2004, The Elliotts have played songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks and many more. Their songs are a labor of love, hone tight harmonies, and recreate timeless sounds and energy.
They played for the 2013 South Side marathon welcome celebration.
Everyone is invited to this family-friendly celebration. This year, the chamber’s goal is to make the South Side business district the “entertainment capital” of the race.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their folding chairs for comfort and their homemade signs supporting the runners to share their South Side spirit with the marathoners.
