South Side Double MirrorArt Crawl slated for Marathon weekend

The South Side Double Mirror Art Crawl on Saturday, May 2 will recognize and celebrate the artistic community on South Side with local artists and musicians featured at selected venues.

A daytime event from 2-10 p.m., the South Side Double Mirror Art Crawl will showcase 30 artists at 15 independent shops between S. 10th and S. 25th streets. Everyone is welcome, and there is no charge to view the artwork in the shops.

Dave’s Music Mine, Decade, Threads, Evolver Tattoo, among others, will host artists. Delanie’s Coffee, at 1737 E. Carson Street, is the event headquarters.

Artists Karla Lamb and Chris Boles are leading the event coordination with sponsors Utrecht, BLICK art materials, amp’d, South Side Chamber of Commerce, Double Mirror Exhibit, Redfishbowl, Delanie’s Coffee, Ziggy Sawdust Productions and Green Mountain Energy.

The art crawl is designed to reach across the artistic, business and residential sectors of the community and invite guests to enjoy a spectrum of local art, live performances, and unique shops and boutiques. Double Mirror’s grassroots structure provides a welcoming setting for emerging artists and businesses to connect and network.

Merchants, curators, artists and guests will be able to exchange ideas and spark the conversation about appreciating the value art brings to South Side. Each selected venue will showcase one or two artists, who will appear with their work and visit with guests.

The artwork will be displayed on easels and interior walls. Live music is scheduled during the day and at some shops after 7 p.m. Live painting, body art and street performances will entertain guests.

Food trucks will be on location. BYOB will be at selected locations.

The Art Crawl takes place the day before the Pittsburgh Marathon, Sunday, May 3.
