Spring Redd Up coming

This spring’s area-wide Redd Up during March, April and May is on a pace to attract 400 Pittsburgh neighborhoods, groups and communities in a five county area.

“Based on this participation, we’re upping the volunteer turnout number to 16,000 to 20,000 and project they will collect 400 tons of litter and trash,” said Boris Weinstein of Citizens Against Litter, one of the organizers.

The focus weekend is April 24, 25, 26 but many groups hold their events on other days during the three spring months. Earth Day is April 22.

People interested in volunteering and finding a neighborhood to hook up with should contact Mr. Weinstein at 412-688-9120 or e-mail boris.weinstein@verizon.net.

In South Pittsburgh, participants from the following neighborhoods and organizations include: Allegheny CleanWays, Allegheny County Day Probation, Allegheny West, Allentown, Arlington, Beltzhoover, Carrick, Duquesne Heights, Duquesne University’s Spiritan Campus Ministry, Explorers Club (Mt. Washington Hillside), Friendship, Friends of the Riverfront, Friends of the Waterfront, Hilltop Alliance, Knoxville, Mt. Oliver, Mt. Washington, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, Pennsylvania Resources Council, South Side Flats, South Side Riverfront Park Cleanup and South Side Slopes.
