Train-themed weekend at Science Ctr.

Locomotion Weekend at Carnegie Science Center on Dec. 13 and 14 is the year’s biggest celebration of trains.

The Science Center will be packed with special displays and activities from a host of local model train associations and hobbyists. Exhibitors include: Fort Pitt Hi-Railers, Train Collectors Association, Train Collectors Association’s Fort Pitt Kids Club, Lionel Collectors Club of America, Pittsburgh “S” – Gaugers, Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum, South Hills Model Railroad Club, D.A.R.E. Model Railroad Club, and many more.

Visitors are invited to bring their own model trains for a free checkup by the “Loco Doctor,” which includes basic repairs, cleaning, and oiling.

The smallest train lovers can tinker with easy-to-build trains in the Lionel Kids’ Zone. Train lovers of all ages will enjoy the operating train layouts and special hands-on activities.

All of this is in addition to the beloved Miniature Railroad & Village® with its newest feature, the Buhl Planetarium; a mini-railroad and village around the holiday tree in the main lobby; and dozens of historic model train artifacts from Lionel’s private collection.

All activities are included with general admission.

Locomotion Weekend is part of Lionel Days, presented by Lionel.
