State grant will aid the Mon Wharf Switchback

State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, has announced approval of a $250,000 state grant toward construction of the Mon Wharf Switchback, which is intended to create the final connection to Point State Park from the Great Allegheny Passage trail network.

“When complete, the Mon Wharf Switchback will create a safe connection for pedestrians and bicyclists between the Smithfield Street Bridge to the Mon Wharf Landing and Point State Park,” Rep. Wheatley said. “This will add to the outdoor recreational opportunities in downtown Pittsburgh.”

The grant, awarded to Riverlife, is being provided through the Commonwealth Financing Agency, an independent state agency that evaluates and administers funding for projects that create jobs and invest in the state’s financial growth.
