Volunteers score a touchdown at ASC

Kaplan Career Institute Volunteers

Kaplan Career Institute volunteers participated in their Fourth Annual Serve-a-Thon by partnering with Pittsburgh Cares to create a special Carnival Day for the Allentown Senior Center.

Volunteers set up carnival "stations" around the center that included a variety of games and activities such as painting on canvas squares, a memory game, bucket-ball toss and musical chairs and more. The room was a flurry of activity, laughter and cheering each other's successes.

The seniors enjoyed sharing stories and conversation with the Kaplan volunteers at this wonderful event.

Near the end of the day, as prizes were being awarded, a special guest appeared. One of the Kaplan volunteers is married to Louis Lipps (#83), former Pittsburgh Steelers Rookie of the Year (1984), Pro Bowler, and Team MVP in 1985 and 1989.

Mr. Lipps told the group his wife called him to add one more item to his "honey do" list for the day. After chants of "Here we go Steelers, Here we go," he posed for pictures and signed photos. It was a treat for everyone at the center, including the volunteers.
