Allentown couple arrested for growing pot

Late last week, Pittsburgh Police SWAT team members executed a search warrant for narcotics at 6 a.m. at a home in the 800 block of Loyal Way in Allentown.

The home was occupied by Romulus Bryant, 33, and Natalie Taylor, 23, along with their two small children, ages 3 and 4. As police secured the residence, SWAT team members notified the narcotics detectives there appeared to be a marijuana growing operation on the third floor, accessible from the children's room.

Narcotics detectives discovered 12 marijuana plants along with numerous other potting containers with soil under a lighting system.

A systematic search of the home uncovered approximately 395 stamped bags of heroin, two gallon size bags containing marijuana and $11,506 in cash. The heroin was recovered from a drawer in the kitchen.

Both Mr. Bryant and Ms. Taylor were charged with: Possession of heroin; Possession with the intent to deliver heroin; Possession of marijuana; Possession with the intent to deliver marijuana; Possession with the intent to deliver (cultivating marijuana); Endangering the welfare of children, two counts; Criminal conspiracy; and, Possession of an instrument of crime (false bottom can).

The children were turned over to their maternal grandmother and CYF was notified.
