Carnegie Science Center is once again teaming up with Duquesne Light to host Conservation Day, which will feature environmentally-themed programming for all ages, on Martin Luther King Day.

With Duquesne Light’s sponsorship, all visitors will enjoy free general admission, a free Omnimax film, and free parking on Monday, Jan. 20. The Science Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Martin Luther King Day is a great time to focus on community, and we’re excited to offer a day of fun and learning with a special focus on conservation through our partnership with Duquesne Light,” said Ann Metzger, co-director of the Science Center.

During Conservation Day, visitors will be able to explore the Science Center’s four floors of hands-on exhibits plus Highmark SportsWorks® and will have the opportunity to watch an environmentally themed Omnimax film, Grand Canyon Adventure, on the biggest screen in Pittsburgh.

A live theater show called Home Makeover: Green Edition will be part of the festivities. Developed in cooperation with Duquesne Light, this show is among the offerings of the Science Center’s Science on the Road program, which takes entertaining and educational science-oriented stage shows to schools across the region. Another Science on the Road show that will be featured as part of Conservation Day is Captain Green’s Time Machine.

“Protecting the environment and conserving energy are among the top priorities at Duquesne Light,” said Lisa Minor, senior community relations specialist at Duquesne Light. “Partnering with Carnegie Science Center, an organization also dedicated to green pursuits, is a great opportunity to educate the community, in a fun way, about the importance of this cause.”

“We really appreciate Duquesne Light’s sponsorship in making this special day available at no cost to people throughout our region,” said Ron Baillie, co-director of the Science Center.

General admission, Omnimax films, and parking spaces on Conservation Day are subject to availability. For more information, visit
