Brownsville Road assault
When the officers arrived, they observed two victims: a 44-year-old white man who was shot in the shoulder and a 40-year-old white man from Mt. Washington who was beaten in the head with a baseball bat. A third victim, a 45-year-old resident of the home, stated he was asleep during the incident in the living room and did not see what happen.
The first victim reported he was sitting outside the apartment waiting on a ride from his wife to take him home from his brother’s place. He said he was on the phone with her when two young black men walking up the street stopped and one of them asked for a cigarette while the other continued to walk up the street.
He told the police he stood up to give the man a cigarette when one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and told him to walk into the apartment hallway. Once in the hallway the suspect told the victim to “give it up.’’
The victim reported he threw$40 on the ground. When the suspect reached down to get the money the victim ran up the stairs to his brother’s apartment. He ran into his brother’s bedroom and tried to wake him, but the suspect followed him into the bedroom.
The brother became the second victim when he sat up in bed and was shot in the upper shoulder by the suspect. The first victim pushed the suspect into a wall and grabbed a baseball bat that was beside the bed. The two were fighting in the bedroom when the suspect was able to wrestle the baseball bat away and beat the first victim about the head and face before fleeing the home through the front door.
The third victim said the suspect grabbed his cell phone on the way out the door.
The injured victims were transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital, treated and released.
One shell casing was found in the bedroom. The baseball bat was also found in the bedroom with blood on the tip and handle.
The Major Crimes Unit responded to process the scene. The incident will be investigated by Robbery Division.
