SweeP-UP picks up a quarter-ton of broken glass
SSCC President Kim Collins said that the 497.8 pounds of glass collected was 100 pounds more than was collected last year.
Volunteers were divided into teams and assigned a zone in the neighborhood to clean up. In the two-hour time frame to clean up on Saturday, Team Honey was able to get 81.4 pounds of glass off the streets and sidewalks. Good enough for first place in the competition.
Team Hank came in second with 77.4 pounds and Team Mahala, 75.8 pounds of glass.
For coming in first place the winning team’s dog, “Honey,” will receive a free grooming from Diamond in the Ruff. Doublewide Grill also donated gift cards to all the members of the winning team.
Breakfast for the volunteers was donated by Big Dog Coffee and Bruegger’s Bagels.Lunch was provided by 17th Street Café’s new South Side BBQ Company.
This years SweeP-UP was sponsored by SSCC and Blue Tomato Design.
