Last Friday, June 14, Zone 2 police officers were sent to the Armstrong Tunnels at 6:45 a.m. for a robbery in progress.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who reported she was walking across the 10th Street Bridge from South Side towards the Duquesne Campus for school when a man started walking beside her and tried to engage in her conversation. The woman said she started to walk faster to try and cross Second Ave.

As she started walking up the steps from Second Avenue, the man grabbed her from behind and placed his forearm across her neck, pulling her back.

The woman reported he said, “Give me your money and I’ll let you go. I don’t want to hurt you.” She reached into her purse and handed him her wallet. After taking the wallet he ran up the steps towards the Duquesne University Campus.

The woman’s wallet contained a PNC debit Card, Macy’s Credit card, PA ID card and $3. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

Duquesne University Police reported they had cameras that observed the male changing his shirt halfway up the steps into a black long-sleeved jacket with a black sleeveless shirt underneath.

Alec Burnette, 26, was arrested by Zone 2 detectives, transported to the Allegheny County Jail and charged with robbery.
