Police ask for help to identify suspects who stole wallet, credit cards

Pittsburgh police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects wanted in connection with a stolen wallet and credit cards.

On May 20, 2013 at approximately 11 p.m., a report was taken from a walk-in complainant at the Zone 4 station who wished to file a theft.

The victim told the officer that at approximately 8:40 p.m., she was on Becks Run Road, near a residential area close to the intersection of E. Carson Street when she saw two women walking up the street, and stopped to ask them if they wanted a ride. The victim said she felt bad for the women because Becks Run is a busy street without sidewalks.

The victim added that the women got into her car and told her they were from the Homestead area. She told the women Homestead was slightly out of her way, but agreed to take them as far as 8th Avenue near the Homestead Grays Bridge.

The victim said she made some small talk with the two women, and dropped them off at the bridge near 8th Avenue just after 9 p.m. A short time later, she searched her backpack, which was in the back seat of her vehicle, and discovered her wallet had been stolen.

The victim said she didn’t observe the front seat passenger engage in any activity in the back seat, and assumed the woman in the back seat at one point reached into her book bag and stole her wallet and its contents. She added her mother contacted her to tell her fraudulent purchases were made on two of her credit cards.

She followed up with her financial institution and was able to determine a fraudulent purchase in the amount of $20.61 was made at Giant Eagle around 9:17 p.m. and a fraudulent purchase in the amount of $203.43 was made at Target at 9:56 p.m.

Additional purchases were made on her credit card as well. The locations of businesses were unknown at the time.

The victim stated she recalled very little about the two women. She said the front seat passenger was a white female with “frizzy” blonde hair, 35-45 years of age and was wearing a white t-shirt. The back seat passenger was a white female with shoulder length dark hair, approximately 25 years of age and a piercing in her left eyebrow.

This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information or can recognize the women in the accompanying video are asked to contact the Zone 4 Plainclothes Officers at 412-422-6520. Callers may remain anonymous.
