South Sider is county marbles champ


The Allegheny County Parks Department announced the winners of the 2013 County Marbles Tournament, which took place May 30 through June 1 in the Courthouse Courtyard.

In the boys division, 14-year-old Ben Eddings of the South Side took the championship, and 11-year-old Sam Eddings, Ben’s brother, finished second. In the girls division, 10-year-old Emily Cavacini of Shaler Twp. was crowned champion, and 14-year-old Brooke Narr of Lawrenceville was runner-up.

Allegheny County winners and runners-up are now eligible to enter the 90th Annual National Marbles Championship in Wildwood, N.J., from June 17 through 21.

Allegheny County’s marbles program has produced a number of girls and boys national champions, including Bailey Narr and Brandon Matchett in 2011, Penelope Bauer in 2010, Amber Ricci and John Leffakis in 2008, Alexandra Bauer in 2007, Keith Moss in 2006, Jamie Miller in 2005, and Carly Miller in 2004.
