Pittsburgh’s Zoning Board of Adjustment has scheduled the following public hearings of interest to South Pittsburgh residents in the first floor hearing room of the John P. Robin Civic Building, 200 Ross Street, Downtown.

Zone case 56/13 on Thursday, March 21 at 10:10 a.m. is the appeal of Edward Disilvester, owner and applicant, for 1 Virginia Street in the 19th Ward (Zoning District LNC).

Applicant requests one 52.85 sq. ft. double-face pole/ground sign with electronic price display and LED display section at Virginia/Southern corner of existing service station.

Variance Requests: 919.03.O.3, Electronic non-advertising signs are not permitted in LNC zoning district.

Notes: Certificate of Occupancy 83793, dated 6/18/2002, permitted occupancy “Gasoline station with convenience store and one mechanical bay.”

Building permit 12-SGN-00155, dated 11/27/2012, occupancy for one 6.83’x5’ double-face pole/ground business identification sign “Taste buds convenience store-regular self” with electronic price display at Virginia/Southern Avenue corner of existing service station.

Zone case 60/13 on Thursday, April 4 at 9:20 a.m. is the appeal of David Backo, owner, and Nicole Szewczyk, applicant, for 157 Spencer Avenue in the 29th Ward (Zoning District R1D-L).

Applicant requests use of existing two-story structure as child care (limited); 4 to 6 children.

Special Exception Requests: 911.04.A.12, Use of child care (limited) in R1D Zoning District is a Special Exception.

Notes: Certificate of Occupancy 66797, dated May 1993, permitted occupancy “3-story two-family dwelling with a 3-car detached garage; 28’x28’x13’8” 3-car detached garage.”

Zone case 65/13 on Thursday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m. is the appeal of Richard and Renee Costanzo, owner, and Aaron Archibald, applicant, for 1802 Harcum Way (143 S. 18th Street) in the 17th Ward (Zoning District R1A-VH).

Applicant requests new four-story single-family attached dwelling.

Variance Requests: 903.03.E.2, Maximum height three stories permitted and four stories requested.

Past Cases and Decisions: ZBA 173 of 2012, applicant’s request for building renovation for use as single-family dwelling (two units) was approved.
