Holiday Mingle draws 150, raises $18k for new center
The South Side Chamber of Commerce Holiday Mingle at Diesel Club Lounge over the weekend drew 150 people and raised $18,000 toward the opening of a South Side Welcome Center at 1100 East Carson Street.
The Mingle was presented by UPMC Mercy with another 70 local businesses sponsoring or donating to make the event a success.
The South Side Chamber of Commerce is working with Peter Margittai Architects, LLC and the URA’s Best Fit Program to design and install exterior signage. The chamber is planning to apply for grants to fund the signage.
Gerald Lee Morosco Architects, PC is designing the inside of the Welcome Center and is working with local vendors to build out and install the design and furniture through donations.
“We estimate a $50,000 per year operating budget is needed to maintain and staff the Welcome Center,” said Chamber of Commerce President Kim Collins. “The center will present a high-visibility presence for the chamber and reinforce the message that the South Side is a business-friendly neighborhood that welcomes professionals of all types.
In addition to hosting chamber events, the new facility will also be available to South Side community development organizations for meetings.
